NGSD has access to e-books and audiobooks through the OverDrive site. This allows our students and staff to experience reading in new ways, check out books outside of school hours, and listen along with their favorite reads.
Below is a guide to using OverDrive at NGSD. Please contact Ms. McBride if you have any questions.
What is Sora? What is OverDrive?
OverDrive and Sora are the same thing with the same collections of books; Sora is simply the name for the updated and school library focused version of OverDrive. These are collections of audio books and e-books that can be checked out by New Glarus staff and students using a computer, tablet, smartphone, or other device. The photos and tutorials on this page reference Sora, but can all be applied to the OverDrive website as well.
How can I sign up?
Search for and select "New Glarus School District" as your library.
You will be asked for a network login and password. Use the same login as you use to sign into a computer or your Canvas account.
You're in! Start checking out titles!
How can I add my public library account/card to Sora?
Once you are logged into your NGSD Sora account:
Click on the three lines in the upper right hand corner.
Click the green button that says "add a public library"
Search for the library that issued your library card by name or zip code
Select the correct library and enter your library card number as directed
Once you have added an additional library, Sora will automatically search both collections when you are looking for a book.
Accessing Sora via internet browser:
Open your internet browser
Search for "New Glarus School District"
Login to the site using Google sign-on
Using the Sora App
Download the app in your device's app store or at https://meet.soraapp.com/
Search for New Glarus School District and choose it as your library.
Login to the site using Google sign-on
You will now have access to our collection.
How do I check out a title?
Click on the title you want to borrow and then click the word "Borrow" in blue below the image of the cover. Books with the headphones icon below them are audiobooks, books with the book icon are ebooks.
How do I return a title?
Titles automatically expire at the end of their checkout period and will be removed from your account at that time. Three days before the end of the checkout period, you will be given the option to renew the title.
If you want to return a title early and have not yet downloaded it, you will see a 'return' link below the title. Click to return.
What if the title I want is checked out?
Click on the title. There will be an option to put the title on hold and it will be added to your checkouts when it becomes available.
How do I see what I have checked out?
Click on the shelf icon at the bottom of the page. This will take you to your current checkouts and you can start listening/reading where you left off.
How can I request a title be added to our collection?
You can always email any requests to Ms. McBride or stop by the library.
Please remember that you are responsible for following all copyright and fair use policies with regards to online materials. See Ms. McBride if you have any questions.
Are all books available in both audio and e-book format?
No, however you can always request a title in a different format using the request button.
Where do I go to change my account settings?
Click on the three lines in the top right corner. From here you can adjust your account preferences, add libraries, or delete devices from your account.
