Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are delighted to announce that we are finally able to bring our Year 12 and 13 learners to a face-to-face university fair this year. For the last number of years ‘The Lion City Fair’ has been a virtual event where learners interacted with college reps and joined live webinars with universities from all over the world. While this proved to be a valuable learning experience, there is nothing quite like meeting with universities in person.
‘The Lion City Fair 2022’ will host approximately 112 universities from the UK, US, Canada, Europe, Australia and Asia - an incredible opportunity for your child to learn about undergraduate degree programmes, admissions requirements, scholarship opportunities, tuition fees and a whole lot more. A full list of the attending universities can be found here.
The fair will take place on 19th September 2022 at Tanglin Trust School, Singapore and all Year 12 and 13 learners will attend. Learners are expected to be at school at 8am to be ready for an 8.20am departure time. There is no cost involved for learners but all learners are required to wear the full uniform along with their Nexus id.
Date: 19th September 2022
Venue: Tanglin Trust School, Singapore
Departure Time: 8.20am
Return Time: 10.45am
We are so pleased to be able to provide our learners with an opportunity to engage with international universities; kickstart some great dinner table discussions; and further their understanding of possible pathways beyond Nexus.
There are also a number of other fairs and open days happening in Singapore, outside of school time, during the month of September:
An Evening with NTU on 15 September 2022, Thursday, 5.45pm to 9pm (Singapore time) Registration details here.
UWA Open Day: 24th September 2022. More information here.
LASALLE will be organising a Parents' Forum on Friday 23 Sep 2022, 7pm. Parents can register here.
Consider registering for the RightU Fair: See more information here.
Cialfo Student Festival: Open to learners and parents, the Cialfo Student Festival is bringing together 40+ universities worldwide in one event this fall. This virtual university fair is a great opportunity for learners and parents to ask admission officers application-related questions, learn how undergraduate students balance academic and social activities, and hear faculty members’ views on what it means to study specific disciplines at university. Register here.
Date: September 12 - 30 (Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday)
Time:
7:30 - 8:30 PM, 9:00 - 10:00 PM SGT/CST (GMT +8)
5:00 - 6:00 PM, 6:30 - 7:30 PM IST (GMT +5.5)
Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any further guidance.
Best wishes,

Please note that the IGCSE examination boards do not confirm the timetable until Term 3. It is worth noting these have run from April to the end of June and you may want to delay booking any flights until the schedule is confirmed. Nexus has no control over these dates and they can run on public holidays and into the summer holidays. We will share the schedule as soon as it is available.
Nexus holds trial examinations for Year 11 learners from 9th January to 20th January and for Year 10 learners from 10th April to 20th April. These are deliberately placed to allow maximum teaching to have occurred before the assessments to ensure realistic experiences for learners and authentic feedback on their performance. These dates also ensure that there is sufficient time for learners to work with their teachers to maximise their chances of success.
The IB have published a provisional schedule for the May 2023 examinations which run between April 27th and May 19th. Please note Nexus has no control over these dates and they can run on public holidays.
Nexus holds trial examinations for Year 13 learners from 9th January to 20th January. These are deliberately placed to allow maximum teaching to have occurred before the assessments to ensure realistic experiences for learners and authentic feedback on their performance. These dates also ensure that there is sufficient time for learners to work with their teachers to maximise their chances of success.

We know that lunch queues are frustrating. One of the issues is that we still accept cash and it is very rare that learners have the exact money needed and issuing change takes time. The new Nexus learner ID cards are EZ-link cards once activated at the MRT station. These can be automatically topped-up from a bank account. Using tap to pay with these EZ link cards will significantly reduce the queue for paying for food and we would like everyone to move to this for Term 2 please.
There is also another very compelling reason why we should not use cash and that is the fact it is breeding ground for bacteria and viruses. To find out more read on
Live reporting is evolving at Nexus! In the Canvas App, grades will now start appearing under each course name in the dashboard as shown above. This is a new feature we are trialling for our IGCSE and IBDP learners. The aim of these grades is to provide a quick snapshot of the learner's current working level based on summative assignments. Please be aware that the percentage shown is not the percentage of marks achieved but rather a metric used to represent the grade due to different subjects requiring a different percentage of marks to achieve the same grade.
These grades will get populated as the term progresses depending on when each summative assignment might be held in the subject. Till then please do expect to see one of the three possible combinations shown above. We thank you for your patience with any mistakes we might make in this evolutionary phase. If you do have any concerns or issues please don't hesitate to contact ict@nexus.edu.sg and we will be more than happy to help!
We occasionally get reports of strangers approaching learners around Aljunied station. Often they will ask for personal details such as names and phone numbers and occasionally they will ask if the learner wants to do something inappropriate. We advise learners not give them any personal details and to ignore the person and make their way to the nearest adults either station security, police or shop staff and tell them about the person. We also ask learners to tell their parents or guardian and the school about what happened so that we can all work together to ensure the authorities know what is happening and they can take the appropriate action.
A reminder that all learners with iPads should have a working and fully charged keyboard and iPad pencil. We have noticed a significant number of learners, principally in Years 7-9, who are unable to fully access learning activities during class with their devices due to not being fully equipped. Please ensure the iPad pencil is easily recognisable with a name or sticker!
