Another eventful two weeks have seen our community pushing itself to succeed in so many areas and reaping the rewards from those efforts.
We were honoured and thrilled to have the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in school on Wednesday. Margriet Vonno was here to recognise Emiel van Oord's stunning achievements in the recent swimming championships in the Netherlands where he won an incredible five golds and one bronze medal. The Ambassador gave a really engaging speech and at the end she invited the whole audience of Years 7, 8 and 9 to join her on stage!
In other swimming news it should be noted here that Carmen Weiler Sastre set a NEW SPANISH AGE GROUP NATIONAL RECORD in the 50m Freestyle with 26.81s at the OCBC pool this weekend. Huge congratulations to her!
Around 80 people from Nexus completed the Run For Hope to raise money for cancer charities last Sunday morning. The event was held at the Sports Hub and there were two races: the 3.5km and the 10km which some hardy souls completed. Congratulations to everyone concerned, especially to Mrs Bevan for her impeccable organisation and leadership. Please see a full report on the Recent Events page.
The Year 11 and Year 13 learners learned a great deal from the recent Trial Examinations; the insightful reflections from Y13 learners this week showed that the whole experience had been very worthwhile. Year 13 Parents Evening is next week with Year 11 the week after.
In Aljunied the new school building has started to become visible with the super structure complete up to floor one, underpinned by some 500 piles! It is expected that the school will now grow by around one floor per month over the course of the next year. For further details of our new campus click here.
Yesterday we were delighted to host 17 learners and 4 teachers from the Trung Vuong School in Vietnam. After a terrible journey involving a cancelled flight, a sleep in the airport, a subsequent delayed flight and a missing bus at Changi, our intrepid visitors enjoyed a wonderful time in our school, integrating with Mr Bailey's fabulous tutor group to learn some coding skills before making holograms to take home as mementos.
Parents and Guardians of learners in Years 10 to 13 will soon receive an information pack about the Careers and University Counselling Advice at Nexus. As part of that we will be inviting learners and their parents who are interested to sign up to visit the large university fair at SunTec City to meet representatives from universities around the world and start the process of thinking about higher education. We will be running free buses to the event for anyone interested, more details to follow soon.
We hope to welcome parents and guardians to join us for the traditional Lion Dance at 2.30pm on Friday, 9 February in the sports hall. The learners will also experience a variety of other activities to celebrate Chinese New Year during the week.
Good luck to our team who are participating in the Junior Achievement Finals tomorrow - they have an excellent product and accompanying business plan. I hope to see some of you at tomorrow's swimming gala, the largest swim event we host during the year.
