From our Head of Secondary

The first week of this term was very busy indeed; not only did we have Year 12 Examinations, we also had Book Week which culminated in a Book Character Dress Up Day and then the fantastic NexFest on Friday!

NexFest was a wonderful community event and showcased everything that makes us such a strong community. All of our learners who take part in a music group or ensemble were given the chance to perform on the main stage which was a great experience for them with such a large audience (we estimate 1500 people attended). Learners (and some parents!) enjoyed the many obstacle courses and games stalls before Band On The Run brought the event to a close with a great set. Please see the Recent Events page for a full report and more pictures!

The March holiday was notable for two events:

  • the inaugural Nexus ski trip to Verbier, Switzerland, was an enormous success and enjoyed by all parties;
  • our team which competed in the World Scholars Cup had a very successful tournament and a fantastic experience.

You can read more about both events in the Sports and Recent Events pages.

Next week we have Earth Week which will include a variety of activities ranging from the Year 9 Green Technology Learning Exhibition to talks from outside experts. There will be a real focus on making small changes to our lives to make a big difference to the planet so please be ready for some good discussions at home!

We are now at the business end of the academic year for our older learners: Years 11 and 13 go on Study Leave on Monday 29th (last day in school will be Friday 26th April) as the IGCSE and IB Diploma examinations begin. These learners have worked very hard with their teachers and are in a good place to achieve their potential and beyond. We wish them every success and remind that their teachers are available to them throughout the examination period, should they need to visit them.

As we enter the long weekend we should remember the meaning of Easter. Easter marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ and is the most important Christian festival with this coming Easter Sunday being the culmination of Holy Week. Happy Easter to all of our Christian families!

Our New School

A few photos of our new school taking shape. The images include the tiling being completed in the 20m training pool and an aerial view of the area that will house the two competition-size gyms and the many bags of rubber pellets to create the massive undercover softplay area. The yellow structure is part of the canteen area!
