Every Thursday from 2-3.20pm, an English conversation class will be run for parents who would like to improve their English.
Run by Jemma, a parent at the school with a TESOL qualification, it is a free class in a friendly, fun and relaxed setting. The class covers basic grammar, new vocabulary and encourages confidence and fluency in spoken English with a new topic introduced at each lesson. The classes have been running for the past 3 ½ years and are open to all parents.
The classes are split into beginner and advanced levels and held on alternate weeks.
The first advanced class will be held on Thursday 30th January and the beginner class on Thursday 6th February in Room 04-E.061.

IMPORTANT: Coronavirus Update:
As you will be aware, coronavirus is spreading in Singapore. Excellent tracing is ensuring that it is spreading slowly, but nonetheless two weeks ago we had one case and now we have 30. We must remain highly vigilant.
The NPG Committee fully supports the school’s protective measures, which have included cancelling or postponing large events on site. The school is closely following the advice of trusted authorities such as the World Health Organisation and the Singapore Ministry of Health and applying context and common sense to balance the safety of the community on site with mitigating disruption to the learning experience. It is imperative, (now well beyond mere advisement), that we all follow the school’s requests regarding being on site, and report signs of illness. This is ultimately for the protection of our learners.
Unfortunately, unlike SARS (2002-2003) carriers of the virus are infectious before they present symptoms, so although per capita infections are extremely low in Singapore, we can all further reduce our risk of contracting the virus by simple but thorough hand sanitisation after being in public areas. The following site (Johns Hopkins University) provides accurate statistics (updated several times daily) and also importantly perspective of the degree of the current crisis in Hubei province compared with that of Singapore.

Communication is also one of the best defences. As a community we can get through this challenging time together by protecting ourselves in order to protect each other.
The Parent Lounge is located on Level 1 at the north-western corner of the Playing Field. We are still in process of fitting the space out, but it is open and all parents are welcome. This room is currently combined with the Parent Shared Workspace. Over the June/July school holiday (or possibly before) a larger separate Shared Workspace will be created, thus providing the parent community with two fantastic spaces.
We wear blue badges and will always do our best to answer your questions, address your concerns or just sit down for a coffee

About the Nexus Parent Group and the NPG Committee:
The NPG is an independent group within the school community. Its mission is to develop this community to the benefit of our learners. The NPG ‘s work is organised through the NPG Committee, which comprises an Executive of five elected office bearers, and a number of general committee members. The NPG’s has two main goals: to provide parents with a platform through which to start conversations and provide feedback to the school – to be “a voice of the parents”, and to offer a range of social, cultural and special interest events that support a close-knit and connected learning community. We welcome all volunteers to become involved in our activities, with the main aim of developing our school’s community. Every parent and guardian is a member of the NPG and our ideas and input are welcomed. We can be easily contacted via email or Facebook: npg@nexus.edu.sg https://www.facebook.com/groups/nexusparentgroup/
