Last week, the Year 9’s explored Beijing Opera and created short performances using stock characters such as Xingsun the untrustworthy dwarf, Dan a noble and elegant lady, Jing the young brave warrior, and Houdun the master of martial arts. The whole year group had the opportunity to play with hand painted Chinese opera masks and learnt that different colours have different symbolic meanings. Did you know that there are 300 different types of costume for Beijing Opera and costume and make up was all colour coded according to character type!
After the conclusion of our successful trial exams at the beginning of Term 3, we took the opportunity to get out and explore our local community. This was one of the first trips we have been able to take since we moved to our new campus. Our learners explored the history of Joo Chiat and visited places like Willing Hearts, where teachers and learners regularly volunteer. We finished the day at Geylang Serai for a delicious lunch. We feel very fortunate to be able to get out into the community and meet our neighbours.
