The Restorative Practices and Conflict Resolution Workshop on Monday was a great success! Over 60 parents attended to hear our visiting expert Greg Jansen discuss strategies that you can use at home with your sons and daughters. We are pleased to say he is running an evening session this coming Monday too, 7.30-9pm, please come along to find out how you can incorporate these practices into your daily interactions with your children.
It was so unfortunate that the Years 7 to 9 Cross Country Event was cancelled this afternoon. We tried our best to make it happen but in the end it was not possible due to the Haze. We will let you know as soon as we can of any future replacement events.
The Hub is used extensively throughout the Secondary School, particularly in Years 7 to 11, and teachers post lesson materials, units of work, assessments and Home Learning on the platform. By default, the Hub is set up so that parents can see the Home Learning easily on the App or via a Browser on a computer or tablet.
Download the Teamie App to your phone/tablet/ipad from the appropriate store. We apologise that it is not called 'The Hub' on the App Stores - the developers, Teamie, use this App across many educational institutions but Nexus decided to call the platform 'The Hub' within our community. Use the username and password you were given to sign on to the App (or through a browser on a computer). Please contact Student Services if you have forgotten them.
You will see a list of your children with 'To-Dos' next to them - wait a few seconds for the 'To-Do' list to refresh. At this point click on the 'To-Do' number - this takes you directly to the overview list of Home Learning tasks that need to be completed with dates.
We will give you further updates on Hub use in future newsletters.
This newsletter is an important part of our communication with our whole community. Through it we try to alert you to upcoming events and post important notices. As you know we also use direct email for very important, often year-specific events, such as overseas trips.
For Reports and Parents Evenings we use the Engage Portal, so you will not have too much interaction with that platform, apart from at key points in the year.
For most year groups in Secondary School we use The Hub to deliver lessons, as above. However, in Years 12 and 13 we use Managebac to help us to deliver and monitor the IB Diploma and parents have a view into that platform too.
For CCAs we use CHQ to manage all the events and the registration of learners at each CCA. It is unfortunate that there is nothing else quite like it on the market, but we are aware that it is an additional platform for you to use occasionally. However, in Secondary School, learners are responsible for choosing their own CCAs through CHQ.
Going forward we are delighted to announce a Preview Event at the new school campus on Saturday 9th November - please save the date, further details to follow!
Tomorrow (Saturday) we have the Rock and Indie Music Festival at LaSalle and it would be great to see some of you there supporting our young performers. Last year's event was great fun and it is at a great location down in the centre of town. Please see further details here.
The following week (starting Monday, 23 September) is Nexus UN Global Goals week. On Monday, 23 September the UN Climate Action Summit takes place in New York followed by the two day Sustainable Development Goals Summit. To support this work, each year we kick off new initiatives in support of the 17 UN Global Goals for 2030. In support of the goal: 'Quality Eduction for All', on Wednesday, 25 September all learners are invited to dress to follow the dress up theme of “When I grow up” for a $2 donation. All proceeds will go to the Year 12 CAS project at the Kong Maha Primary school in Kampong Cham, Cambodia. Details of the full programme of activities for the week will be shared via our communication channels next week.
Have a good weekend.
Peter Hart, Head of Secondary School
