Having prepared for the trip throughout the first term, it was exciting to be finally on our way!
From the very beginning all the learners were in high spirits, and this did not waiver throughout the week. Despite tiredness setting in and having to face some difficult challenges the learners were consistently motivated and supportive of each other.
No one was deterred by a few flooded hammocks in the early morning caused by the torrential downpour during the overnight camping and jungle trek and it was a fun challenge to start the week. As a result of the successful completion of the trek, every learner who took part, can now be signed off for the expedition element of their National Youth Achievement Award.
Once back at Telunas, although tired, everyone continued their learning journey in preparation for our visit to the village. It was enlightening and valuable to hear about the customs and traditions which we needed to respect whilst working at the school. The strong links with our current focus in our Theory Of Knowledge curriculum were also evident, and have already been used in the lessons this week, whilst exploring Indigenous Knowledge systems.
Our arrival in the village saw the warmest welcome with children appearing from all directions and cheering as the bus pulled into the school. We thought it would be straight to work, but we were treated to a display of dancing which we were delighted to join in with once we learnt the steps.
The work in the school involved Mural painting, physical work building the badminton court and retention wall, teaching the children and playing sports whilst teaching them new skills. Throughout the process many friendships developed between the children, some even brought in gifts from home or wrote letters to show their appreciation to Nexus learners for their time and consideration whilst we were there.
It was a productive week which demonstrated the many attributes of the Year 12 learners, including a great deal of commitment, risk taking, caring and camaraderie. Everyone involved deserves to be very proud of all that they achieved and the difference they have made to the community in Moro who have taught us many lasting lessons.

On Thursday 12th October Year 7 learners gave the school community an insight into their learning throughout Term 1. They had been engaged in an interdisciplinary programme of study across Music, Art, English, Science, Humanities and Drama, all concerned with identity and their own place in the world.
The lively schedule began with a fabulous musical performance, followed by a video depicting drama improvisation, drafting in English and even dissection in Science! Accompanied by displays of their work, Year 7 learners shared their experiences with parents and guardians, teachers and, of course, their peers from Year 6 and Year 8. The MPR was a riot of colour and energy and as their learning came to life from a range of screens, pages, art cubes and even infographics adorning the walls! Congratulations to all of Year 7 for sharing their experiences so eloquently.
