The story of the last three weeks has certainly been overseas trips and giving of service. In the week before the holiday Year 12 learners went to Telunas, Indonesia for their Creativity, Activity, Service trip and the feedback has been simply outstanding from all quarters. The learners are rightly proud of what they achieved working alongside villagers and their children, and learning a huge amount in the process; a full report can be found on the Recent Events page of this newsletter.
During the break Maite and Jessa Verhoef went with their parents to work with a charity in Nepal called Chora Chori which is helping people to get back on track after the terrible earthquake of 2015. Before they left the girls, alongside Anjali Kumanan, Federica Antonelli and others, organised a day of fundraising which netted an impressive $1800 for the charity. We congratulate the girls on an excellent achievement.
This week all of our learners in Years 7, 8 and 9 have been on overseas trips which have been focused on Service and Leadership. As with the Year 12, these younger people have learned so much about themselves during the week and have developed enormously in situations which have been challenging and different for many of them. Full reports will follow in next week's newsletter but her are some pictures to whet your appetites:
The Year 7 Learning Exhibition on the Thursday before the break was a great success. It was lovely to see so many parents and carers in attendance, enjoying the very eloquent presentation of work across a wide range of subject areas. Please see the full report on the Recent Events page.
Many staff, parents and learners spent a good deal of time decorating the school ready for the Deepavali celebrations on the last Friday of term. It was wonderful to be welcomed into school with traditional music and beautiful Rangolis in the Bus Bay.
I would like to draw your attention to the registration for the 2018 Run For Hope in Marina Bay. The Nexus Community has participated in large numbers for several years and it is a great event to raise money for a good cause. Further details can be found on the Upcoming Events page but please note the short deadline of October 31st to secure the early bird discount fee using the Nexus Promotional Code. Learners and families and friends are all welcome.
It was good to welcome lots of new learners at the start of Term 2 and we look forward to having all learners back in school next week so we can hear about their adventures!
