Last week Y11 Computer Science learners were treated to a demonstration of tech start up VokaBee’s Artificial Intelligence tool. Also showcasing their learning app to teachers in the English Learning Area, VokaBee allowed learners to see how their algorithm targeted and measured reading and vocabulary skills. VokaBee, mentored by Nexus parent Winni Verhoef, is the brainchild of tech specialists Camil Torabully and Andrey Korchak.

On Thursday Year 12 learners were fortunate to have a workshop led by James Bryce the CEO of Gweek. He was on the BBC last week discussing how spoken communication is becoming a lost art.
Learners carried out a series of group activities to assess their speech patterns and tried out various strategies to help maintain the interest of the listener. Learners were then introduced to a Gweek app that uses AI to improve the quality and authenticity of speech. The learners will be working with this app next term to prepare them for future interviews and careers.
