As you may recall the final day of our recent UN Global Goals Week was a focus on the provision of high quality for all children in the world. In conjunction with this goal our marvellous Year 12 learners raised money to support the school building and associated educational work they will be doing when they visit Cambodia at the end of this month. We are very pleased to announce that $4,633.55 was raised and Year 12 should rightly feel very proud of their achievements - we wish them well for their upcoming excursion to a remote settlement in Cambodia.
This week school has been rather quiet as learners in Years 7, 8 and 9 have been in various camps across Malaysia and Indonesia. The learners have had a terrific time and no doubt will have lots of stories to tell this weekend. The Year 7 team went to Tioman Island, Malaysia and had a wonderful time on the beautiful wilderness island.
Year 8 went to Telunas, Indonesia and enjoyed their work with the local villagers:
The Year 9 trip to Ipoh, Malaysia had more of an accent on leadership and this was certainly tested with some tough challenges in white water, on high ropes and down caves.
Full reports of all three trips will appear in the next newsletter, once the teachers have got their breath back!
Diversity Week with the title "Me You Us" takes place the week after the holiday. As with previous years, Diversity Week is all about sharing our diverse cultures within our community and it is always a fun time. Please note that Friday 26th October will be an opportunity for learners to dress up to represent either their culture, nationality or individuality. Please visit the Upcoming Events page for further details.
During Diversity Week we also have the 'Spooktacular' Secondary Music Concert - further details are on the Arts page. And on the Thursday of that week we also have the Year 7 Learning Exhibition, see the Upcoming Events page.
This term seems to have passed by very quickly and Christmas will soon be upon us! The NPG are starting to organise the Christmas Fair for the last week of term and would appreciate some volunteers to support the event. Please contact them at npg@nexus.edu.sg for more information.
It remains for me to wish you all a happy week's break.
Peter Hart, Head of Secondary School
