World Federation United Nations Programme: Mission Possible
Five Year 10 learners have started this programme which was recently developed by the UN to encourage young people to become agents of change. Our learners will be working on a project that will address one of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. At the moment our team seem interested in the issue of recycling and reducing waste. A programme manager employed by the UN will work with our learners teaching them about fundraising and project management. It is a 6 month project and our learners will have the opportunity to present their project at the UN building in New York next year. This week our team had a visit from the Programme Manager from the UN in New York and they did some team building activities - she was very interested by their energy and enthusiasm! If any parents have experience with fundraising and project management we would be very grateful if you could come in to talk to these learners and help them on their journey!

Mother Tongue Languages - Would you like your son or daughter to have classes in his or her Home Language?
We currently offer Mother Tongue or Home Language classes in French, Russian and Japanese after school, as well as in Chinese in our core curriculum time during the school day. Dutch lessons are also available at Nexus through the outside provider 'Language One'. Please contact us for details if you are interested. We are currently looking to recruit a teacher of German to help us add to this list! We are always looking to develop our programme, as well as the range of languages on offer for learners in Years 1 to 9. If your son or daughter regularly uses a language other than English at home and you would like him or her to join other speakers of the language for a weekly class, please indicate your interest through completing this short form. Where three families of children of a broadly similar age group would like their children to take part, we will look to find a teacher and set up a class. Please note, an additional charge of $30 per session is made for afternoon Mother Tongue language classes.
