From the Head of Secondary
The last fortnight has gone really quickly as we have busied ourselves with a variety of events, both inside and outside of school. Trips to Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall and Pulau Ubin have inspired learners in History and Geography, and have provided them with rich resources and data for their respective courses. Musicians excelled at the Open Mic night when Casio brought their incredible new Hybrid Piano into school and it was wonderful to hear some of its capabilities first hand.
On the sports field the strong results continue to flow and our teachers and learners travel far and wide to play fixtures. However, on home soil the number of spectators has grown significantly this year and this is creating a wonderful atmosphere for these fixtures; please remember that everyone is welcome!
It has been lovely to meet many parents at the recent Year 7 and Year 12 Parent Consultation Evenings, as well as at the Operation Wallacea Information Evening on Monday; 'OpWall' is an incredible opportunity to embed with scientists working in South Africa and it is not too late to join up - see the information on the Upcoming Events page.
All learners have had the opportunity to make Mooncakes in school this week during their Chinese lessons as part of the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations. Some of our Chinese parents participated in a sharing of food in the NPG room on Wednesday and it was indeed a very enjoyable gathering with so many special dishes of food on display.
Today we have all gone 'Mad For Nepal'. Organised by some Year 10 learners we have all enjoyed coming to school in colourful clothing and I suspect that the learners enjoyed sponging the teachers more than I did! See here for more pictures but there are two here to whet your appetite:
We hope to see many parents at the Year 7 Learning Exhibition next Thursday at 2pm where learners will get a chance to share their learning across several subject areas under the overarching theme of Identity. See here for more details.
Next Friday there will be Deepavali celebrations in school. Learners must wear full school uniform but may choose to wear an appropriate accessory as outlined in the Upcoming Events page.
It remains for me to wish Year 12 learners and accompanying staff every success on their CAS trip to Telunas, Indonesia - they departed from Harbourfront this afternoon.
Have a good weekend.
