Phase 1 Christmas Marketplace

On Wednesday, the A1 pod was filled with festive cheer as our Nursery and Kindergarten learners enjoyed a wonderful morning of Christmas activities with their families. There were decorations to make, biscuits to ice and yummy 'Grinch grapes' to prepare. Once the decorations were finished and ready to hang on the tree, we all gathered in our central pod to sing Christmas carols from around the world. I am sure everyone will agree that the children sang beautifully. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

Year 1 Mini Exhibition: Forces

On Thursday, Year 1 children proudly shared their learning on the concept of forces as they engaged in various scientific experiments including making a playdough boat float and investigating friction using cars and ramps. One of the highlights included the Egg Drop Investigation, where they made a container for an egg before launching it from the second floor! It was great to see the learners (and parents) so engaged and to see the smiles on their faces upon discovering that they had defied gravity and their eggs had landed safely. Thank you to all the parents for joining us in celebrating our learning.

Year 2 Mini Exhibition: Light

The Year 2 parents were treated to an ‘enlightening’ experience as the learners shared their inquiries into ‘Light’ during our Mini Exhibition on December 4th. It was great to see the parents getting involved in hands-on activities and the depth of understanding the children showed as they talked about shadows, refraction and the translucency of materials. Taking inspiration from their trip to the ArtScience Museum, the auditorium was transformed into a sanctuary where people could experience how light and sound can affect our feelings. A big thank you to all our wonderful parents who supported this inquiry!

Nursery trips to Orange Valley and Clementi Fire Station

We were so proud of our Nursery learners showing kindness to the elderly residents on our visit to Orange Valley Nursing Home. We have a wonderful connection with Orange Valley and the learners bring such happiness to their day. Our next visit will be over Chinese New Year to continue this happy community action.

To extend our learning about Community Helpers, we organised a Saturday morning visit to the Clementi Fire Station. It was wonderful to learn more about how fire fighters handle emergencies and our curious learners were keen on experimenting with the different equipment used by the fire fighters.

Year 5 Trip to the Singapore Science Centre

On Thursday, 13 December, the Year 5 learners spent the morning exploring the Singapore Science Centre. Our focus was to develop a deeper understanding of solids, liquids and gases and to view a variety of different exhibitions to consider the ways scientific information is displayed and shared. We attended a lively ‘States of Matter’ presentation in the lecture hall, watching exciting experiments that included seeing the effect liquid nitrogen had on bananas, leaves of cabbage, balloons filled with air and gloves filled with water. Following the lecture, we spent the final hour exploring the interactive displays that are currently showing. It was a great way to tune the learners into thinking about how scientific information is presented.

Charlie Walker:

Adventurer and writer talks with our learners

Learners in Years 3 to 6 were treated to an exceptional range of stories and adventures as told by the self-proclaimed 'human powered' adventurer and writer Charlie Walker. Our learners were engaged from the moment Charlie stepped onto the stage to recount his experiences of travelling by bicycle, foot, horse and canoe across 3 continents and covering an amazing 43,000 miles during his journey.

His stories captured our hearts and minds and encouraged our learners to reflect on the important values of determination and perseverance when faced with difficult challenges. He definitely created a great energy around setting goals and reaching out to achieve them, to take risks and be open minded.

Modern Farming Christmas Fair Booth

The Modern Farming CCA learners did a fantastic job during the Christmas Fair and the weeks leading to it! We sold out of almost every potted plant we had and made over $100. We hope to donate the money to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to plant trees in the 'Tiger Corridor' in Rimbang Baling, Indonesia to restore the last of the pristine rainforests and help save the homes of Sumatran tigers, pangolins, and perhaps countless other undiscovered species. Photos and updates of the trees will be sent to us so we can watch them grow!

This is a testament to all the hard work the learners have done to decorate pots and plant our herbs, and all the research they did on our plants. Special thanks goes out to all who helped make posters, price tags and decorated the booth, as well as to our team of sellers! You should be very proud of yourselves and the team!

Please visit the plant a tree website to learn about how you can plant a tree for someone this Christmas!
