Music Recitals - Thursday, 31 October

Our new Nexus Instrumental Program has been a huge success with nearly 150 learners enrolled and numbers growing every week. We have appointed extremely qualified and experienced music instrumental teachers and already we are witnessing our learners developing further as young musicians. As part of the instrumental programme we promised to ensure that we continued to offer a range of performance opportunities. In our previous Newsletter we shared the opportunity to perform during Diversity week and links for enrolment were shared with learners and parents via the HUB. Additionally on the Thursday, 31 October we will host our first Music Recitals in the Nexus Auditorium.

We are aiming for two Recitals: Primary 1.30-3pm and Secondary 4-5.30pm. However depending on numbers we may later have to split the Primary Recital. Learners are invited to perform on their instrument of choice a piece of music which they are currently preparing with the support of their instrumental teacher. If you are interested in your child performing please follow these important steps:

1. Contact your child's instrumental teacher to ascertain if your child is ready and prepared.

2. Finalise the music.

3. Instrumental tutors will enrol each learner.

If your child does not participate in the Nexus Instrumental Programme and they are still interested to perform please address your interest by contacting us at music@nexus.edu.sg

Primary Orchestra Performance

After only 4 rehearsals it was lovely to have the Primary Orchestra perform during assembly last week. They serenaded our learners at the during our Years 1 to 6 assemblies with their rendition of a Tango and Cha-Cha-Cha! Learners in our orchestra range from Years 2 to 6 and rehearse weekly, Wednesday lunchtimes. We will be starting new music next week and preparing for Christmas! If your child has been playing their instrument for approximately 6 months and would like to join please email: music@nexus.edu.sg

We include: violin, cello, flute, saxophone, clarinet, percussion, recorder, guitar and ukulele.

Primary Choir performance coming up!

Our Primary Choir members have been committing to learning two songs and are very excited to perform them at next week's Years 1 to 6 assemblies. A catchy pop tune 'Thunder' as well as a beautiful choral piece 'Riversong' are their repertoire this time.

Come and support our young singers! We are looking forward to seeing some of you at next week's assemblies.

Our annual Secondary Ensembles Concert is on Wednesday, 23 October. This year all our music has been selected to coincide with it being 50 years ago since Neil Armstrong was the first person to set foot on the moon. This year, in 2019, Nexus are proud to celebrate this event by placing our own fantastic musicians on the Nexus Stage (all 150 of them) - including the Secondary Orchestra, Year 10 IGCSE Ensemble, Guitar Ensemble, Secondary Choir, Chamber Choir and all the Year 8 learners.

All music has been intended to reflect the Moon, so expect great songs including 'Fly Me To The Moon', 'Moondance', 'Blue Moon' and many more to get your feet tapping! Our concert begins at 6.30pm in the Auditorium, however learners will need to be in school from 6.00pm. This event is ticketed and further details will be sent via our school marketing department. Please invite family and friends to come as it promises to be a fabulous evening of music, dance and fun!
