From our Head of Primary

Welcome to our New Campus

The first two weeks of this new Semester have been filled with some wonderful moments for the community to treasure for a long time to come. Being part of the 'founding community' is a real privilege for us all. I have been particularly impressed with how our learners in Primary School have transitioned into their new 'home'. The have truely embodied the Nexus Way. Learners visited the school last Semester and with open minds they spent time exploring the empty spaces with their teachers and classroom assistants and shared their ideas of what they would like from the space. Our staff took these wonderful ideas and during the holiday period transformed those empty spaces into the innovative learning hubs they now are. It is a pleasure walking through these spaces and seeing and hearing the 'buzz' of learning, whether it is in the Music Studios, the Visual Arts rooms , the Learning Resource Hub, down at the pool or any of the many other fantastic new spaces available to the children.

lt is a testament to our wonderful Nexus community and the strong inclusive relationships we aim to build to see how well all our wonderful new families, new teachers and new classroom assistants have so quickly become part of the Nexus 'family'. Wednesday's Welcome Evening was our first major event since opening and we really enjoyed welcoming parents new and old to our new campus to meet teachers in an informal setting. It was great to be part of the discussions over canapés and see the home-school relationships being formed.

This week we also welcomed Nigel Forbes-Harper from the International Baccalaureate (IB). As a school moving to a new campus, the IB visit the school to provide an initial evaluation of the learning environment and how it can support the Primary Years Programme (PYP). Nigel was incredibly impressed with how your children were learning, even mentioning that whilst all the Learning Hub children were involved many different learning experiences, all of them were deeply engaged with their learning.

There will be another opportunity to explore the school on Friday, 7 February as we hold our Primary School Learner Conferences. Please note that the Primary School is CLOSED on that day and each child is invited to attend with their parents/guardians to share their learning. More details are available on the Upcoming Events page and booking will open next week (watch out for the email!)

Other events this term include our Inter-house Track and Field Events, the Hairspray Production and our Whole School Shared Lunch. Keep checking out the Events Calendar shown below (or on our website) and these fortnightly newsletters to find out more.

Wishing all our families a lovely long weekend. School is closed on Monday. For those that are celebrating the Lunar New Year, I wish you a very happy, healthy and prosperous Year of the Rat - full of exciting adventures and opportunities! Take a look at the 'Recent Events' page for photos of today's celebrations at school.
