On Friday, 5 February 2021 the Primary School will be CLOSED to allow for the Primary School Learning Conferences to take place.
Learning Conferences are formal sessions for parents that are, in the main, led by the learners themselves. Our teachers will have guided and prepared your child for this experience. The emphasis is on the discussion between you and your child around their learning journey.
Learning Conferences are led by a child for parents and guardians. It is focused on learning. During a conference the learner reflects on their learning in a range of areas. At Nexus we believe that learning is enhanced when a child reflects on his or her own learning processes. Research shows that developing a child’s ability to talk about their learning and their progress makes a difference:
Due to the ongoing restrictions in place required by the Singapore Ministry of Education, unfortunately we are not able to invite families into school for this event. Instead, we have planned an engaging online experience for you to explore with your child.
There will be a 10 minute online conversation between your child, yourselves and your child’s homeroom teacher. These appointments will be available from 8.30am to 4.30pm. In addition, there will also be a selection of homeroom activities shared via SeeSaw (available from 8am onwards) for your child to lead you through. Your child will also be able to access activities to showcase their learning in all specialist areas (Music, Visual Arts, HPE, LOTE-French or Chinese and BML).
The online conversations with your homeroom teachers will be conducted in English. We encourage parents that are not fluent in English to have someone join the conversation online that can help them translate. Alternatively, we can provide limited translation services. If you will require this, please complete this form (you will need to know your child’s class and your appointment time).
You can now book your time with your child's homeroom teacher through the Parent Portal. Bookings and requests for translation services will close on Wednesday, 3 February at noon. Links for the online meetings will be shared nearer to the day.
For the Learning Conference to be most valuable for you and your child, we recommend that you put aside approximately 90 minutes for each child. Prior to the Learning Conferences, you will find it useful to have read your child’s Semester 1 Learning Summary that was issued in December via the Parent Portal.
For learners that have joined us in Semester 2, the online conversation with the homeroom teacher will be focusing on how your child is settling into life at Nexus. New learners in Years 3 upwards are encouraged to explore all the various SeeSaw activities, although some may be less relevant for them.
Nexus Beats is non-competitive and open to all musicians from Year 6 to 13. It also welcomes performers from other performing arts, such as Dancers, Emcees, Poets, Rappers, DJs and Magicians, as well as poster designers and a backstage crew.
This year’s concert will take place on Wednesday, 3 March and, like last year, it will be streamed live on social media.
Year 6 learners, please contact Andrew Fordham (Music Department) if you would like to take part.
