Our taking action group gets a lot of requests from learners for small fundraising actions during the year.
To give more opportunities for children to engage in social entrepreneurship, we are trailing Market Day at lunchtime on Friday, 4 October (the last day of term). On Market Day, learners are able to set up small businesses to sell products or services.
Learners from Years 2 to 6 are welcome to apply. We ask that learners in Years 2 to 4 arrange either an adult or secondary learner to supervise them. We also ask that any food products sold are nut free.
Learners can apply through this form for a table at the Market Day. We strongly encourage learners to collaborate with their friends on a business as we will have a maximum of 15 tables available.
This first Market Day the proceeds of the market day will go to Chora Chori, a charity that Nexus has a long-standing relationship with located in Nepal.
On Tuesday, 24 September our Kindergarten learners will visit Jacob Ballas Children's Garden at Botanic Gardens. The visit is to support their understanding of their current Unit of Inquiry , 'People use their senses to learn about themselves and the environment.' The children will have the opportunity to explore the gardens using their five senses and to enjoy a picnic snack.
On Thursday, 26 September the Nursery learners will visit Singapore School of the Arts (SOTA) to see a production of the popular children's story, The Way Back Home by Oliver Jeffers. The story is about friendship and showing kindness to others, which links to our current Unit of Inquiry on Relationships and their impact on wellbeing.
On Tuesday, 24 September, Year 3 learners will participate in a workshop at the National Museum of Singapore to support their current Unit of Inquiry . Our learners will view the exhibits and explore how culture is reflected though various works of art from around South East Asia.
The excitement is rising in Year 3 as we look forward to our residential trip in just 2 weeks time. We will be spending two days at 'Camp Challenge' in Sembawang participating in rock climbing, raft building, campfire activities, strategy games and team activities. Our Camp will give our learners the opportunity to use their collaborative skills to work successfully together in groups; support and encourage each other; show resilience when problem solving; develop confidence and independence and extend personal organisation skills. Year 3 parents can find all details (including the packing list) on the Parent Zone of our website.
To support our Unit of Inquiry, ‘Choices Influence Our Wellbeing’, we are organising a visit to West Coast Park on Tuesday, 24 September 2019. The learners will consider the elements needed to create a Wellbeing Space. Through this they will explore the safety of play equipment as well as consider the impact that this equipment has on their wellbeing, as well as the surrounding nature. The Year One team look forward to venturing out with the learners on their first field trip this year. Letters will be sent home today.
