Year 6 PYP Exhibition Challenge!

The Year 6 PYP Exhibition Challenge was an opportunity for learners to discover the strengths of each of their group members.

Over 20 challenges faced the teams as they raced around the school solving problems in the areas of Languages, Art, Music, HPE, IT and Library skills. The energy levels were high throughout the challenge, bringing with it the promise of a wonderful experience as the Exhibition begins.

Many thanks to all our Specialist Teachers who created such engaging and fun experiences for our learners.

Year 5 Mini-Exhibition - Advertising

Congratulations to all the Year 5 Learners for hosting such a vibrant Mini Exhibition, which was truly a festival of persuasion. The hugely positive feedback from parents and other visitors was well deserved. The learners were really excited to be able to share their learning journeys taken over the course of this advertising inquiry. Their positivity and enthusiasm to raise awareness about a huge variety of causes and issues was clearly evident. Many thanks to the Visual Art department for the powerful transdisciplinary learning. The creation of the stop motion animation was a fantastic example of single subject integration. Finally, a huge thank you to the parents for coming in to support the learners by visiting many of our Mini Exhibition booths across the three classes, providing an invaluable presentation experience for the children.

In a Galaxy Far, Far Away...

This weekend, Nexus were once again host to a plethora of aliens and starsailors as we took off into outer space on a mission to explore the universe! Learners joined us from Singapore American School, Tanglin Trust, Dulwich College, Canadian International School, UWCSEA and Australian International School on our galactican quest. Pods were alive with energy, enthusiasm, and creativity.

It was wonderful to watch the International Schools' Theatre Association (ISTA) team once again weave their magic and transport the learners to new universes. Our own staff added to the magic by leading a variety of workshops in stage make-up, soundscapes, and holograms. All visitors were amazed by the talented staff we have here at Nexus - thanks to Chloe Beale, Vicky Booth, Michelle Newman, Jenny Burgess, and Ed Bailey.

Behind the scenes, lots of work went into both this and the previous festivals and huge thanks to everyone involved for their tireless energy and enthusiasm.

Inter-house Swim Galas go off with a splash!

Our Nursery learners dived straight into our Inter-house Swimming Galas last Tuesday to get events under way. There was so much excitement as our youngest learners worked their way around the large pool where they were faced with 5 stations designed to show the fundamental skill development they had made in swimming throughout the year. However, it was the ‘Boat Ride’ station that proved to be the hot favourite.

It was then the turn of Kindergarten and Year 1 to take the splash zone to the next level. They too took part in a 6 station rotation showing all the new skills they had learned this year through a range of activities such as the ‘Treasure Hunt’ and ‘Toy Relay’. However it was what happened next that blew many away. Each and every learner then completed their own 25m length (some assisted and some not all depending on their level of water confidence) to claim points for their house. And the satisfaction of completing that was written all over their faces for the rest of the day.

Years 2 and 3 then finished the day with an absolute cracker of an event in which the house points started pouring in! Each and every learner was involved in both freestyle and breaststroke heats before they embarked on the ‘Great Boat Race House Relay’. A new initiative which meant that all learners could take part in the coveted house relay to conclude day 1 at the pool. I think it’s fair to say our younger learners would have slept well that night.

Wednesday morning was no different, when our Year 4 - 6 learners turned up to the pool bright-eyed and bushy tailed ready to make a splash! We were all treated to an amazing display of swimming skills in all 4 strokes; freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and even butterfly! No one could keep up with the house point tallies during this meet. And even if you could the house relays blew the spreadsheet apart! In

After all was said and done the Primary event leaderboard showed that it was Angin (Yellow) House who lead the way ahead of Ayer (Blue), Tanah (Green) and Api (Red) Houses respectively.

A special thank you to our secondary swim team learners who helped to ensure their younger peers were safe throughout the two days.

Congratulations to all learners who were involved in another great house event. Watch this space for the final House Cup results nearer the end of term...

Teachers as Learners

Communication and Collaboration are two very important elements that underpin learning at Nexus. Teachers at Nexus are passionate about being learners themselves. Every year, PYP educators from South East Asia come together to learn from each other, network and collaborate on inquiry projects - The PYP Connect.

Last weekend, over twenty Primary teachers from Nexus attended the network meeting. Workshops ranged from Inquiry Maths Learning to STEM in the Early Years. The learning that takes place at these events is a catalyst for stronger teaching and learning outcomes back at Nexus.

Year Two Shared Stories

What a fantastic event that shared all the stories the Year 2 learners have been writing, designing, creating and producing.

The parents and Year 1's were entertained by the wonderful singing, lead by Mr Chris and accompained by the Ukettes, of "A Million Dreams" and "Lava". The learners explained their inquiry into "Expressing Ourselves" through story telling. They then launched the amazing Google site - Year 2 Shared Stories so that they can be viewed and reflected on from near and far, so friends, family and themselves can enjoy at anytime.

Here is a small sample of the learners in action. Please take a few minutes (or hours) to go to the site and be entertained. It includes the musical performance, art, reflections and of course all the learners stories.
