All Primary learners participating in ukulele and guitar ensembles (Beginner Ukulele, Ukettes (intermediate-level ukulele), and Advanced Ukulele & Guitar) were invited to perform at our assemblies this week. Learners, and many parents, have been anticipating this exciting performance for some time now. More music to come next week - hint hint, percussionists and some cute music and movement pieces coming your way!
If you haven't marked your calendar yet, please do it now! Many of our finest music ensembles are working hard to showcase our excellence by performing beautiful Christmas carols at our annual Carols by Candlelight concert. Our special Carols by Candlelight concert is repeated twice on the day, the first concert from 4 to 5pm then the second from 6 to 7pm. We are looking forward to seeing you there.
Our Carol Concerts are some of the most anticipated in the music diary: and it looks like this year’s concerts will be no exception. Featuring the combined forces of several of our music CCAs, including the Primary Choir, Secondary Choir and Orchestra plus the Secondary Guitar Ensemble, we estimate over 130 of our learners will take to the stage. Audience participation is always welcome, as we sing Christmas favourites old and new, including ‘Hark The Herald Angels Sing’, ‘Once In Royal David’s City’, 'Rocking Around The Christmas Tree’, ‘Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!’ and ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’. This year we will also feature some Christmas Stories, brought to you by our very diverse learners from all year groups.
Tickets (which are free) will be released shortly: check your emails as these events get booked up very quickly.

Around 40 Music Teachers from the Asia area came to Nexus School on Friday and Saturday (Nov 14th and 15th) to participate in the Musical Futures Workshop and Conference. Led by Anna Gower and Ken Owen, these workshops delved into the question of what music education can be - into discussions on learning in the classroom and beyond. With the philosophy of ‘Anyone Can Play’, the sessions were highly practical and the teachers themselves got a chance to experience what it is to be a learner - often by taking risks and exploring the unknown.
Music@Nexus is a keen supporter of this philosophy and we were delighted to share our experiences and offer tips (and resources) to our colleagues from other schools.
Musical Futures is used throughout our Primary and Lower Secondary Music curriculum, and has reaped many benefits: most noticeably in the Nexus Beats (Secondary) and Strum and Play (Primary) performances.
If you have any questions about this, please don’t hesitate to get in touch: music@nexus.edu.sg
