Please note that we have four school closure days in Term 3, these are:
Monday, 31 January, Tuesday, 1 February & Wednesday, 2 February - Chinese New Year
Friday, 4 March - Learning Conferences
Other important dates for Term 3 are:
Primary CCAs start on Monday, 24 January
Learning Conferences Thursday, 3 & Friday, 4 March - School is closed to learners on Friday, 4 March so that teachers, families and learners can meet. Details on how to sign up through the Parent Portal will be sent soon.
Our lessons start at 08:20. It can take little legs quite a few minutes to get from the school entrance to their homeroom. With this in mind, our school gates are open and our teachers are on duty from 08:00. Supporting your child to arrive at school with time to get to their homeroom makes for a positive start to the day and sets everyone up for the learning ahead. Unfortunately, arriving at school for 08:20 means that children are late for their first lesson.
We strongly encourage learners to arrive on site NO LATER THAN 08:10 to make sure they have sufficient time to make their way to the Learning Hubs. Learners who arrive late MUST go to Learner Services upon arrival.
From Monday to Thursday, school finishes at 15:25. On a Friday, it is 14:25 - this is every Friday to enable our teachers to collaborate and plan. Please ensure you have arranged for your child to be picked up at 14:25 on Fridays.
Unless you have made previous arrangements, our learners can only be picked up by a parent or guardian. We cannot allow them to leave with anyone else without your permission. If anyone else is meeting them, please let your child's teacher know, so they can be quickly released at the end of the day.
Thank you for your support.
TraceTogether Token
Thank you for ensuring your child has their TraceTogether Token as they return to school. However, we have noticed that many of the tokens are no longer working. A working token should have a light flashing every minute. If it does not, it needs to be manually scanned which slows down the entry process for your child and others.
New tokens can be obtained for free from community centres; you can find the nearest one with a vending machine here.
At the start of Term 1, we created an Off Campus Learning (OCL) programme for learners with unavoidable school absence. The programme, administered by Steve Gallego, utilises special OCL SeeSaw groups to provide daily activities to learners that are designed to achieve similar objectives to those that the learners on-site are covering.
Learners are able to submit work online, which is duly assessed and feedback is then provided via SeeSaw. From time to time, live lessons are organised according to need. If your child is absent due to an enforced SHN or chronic illness, please advise Learner Services who will make arrangements for your child to be added to the programme.
We also note that there may be other learners absent due to concerns about the current COVID infection rate, or because they are serving SHNs at home or in a hotel after returning from abroad. While the school strictly follows all current safety protocols and has been deemed safe, and while we do not authorise absence for holidays or family visits during term time, we do acknowledge that these are extraordinary moments.
We have prepared a special resource pack for families that elect to keep their children at home, or elect to travel during this period and may/may not need to quarantine on return. If your child will be absent in such circumstances, please inform Learner Services in advance and the pack can be provided.
Every class in our Primary School has a WhatsApp Group. We are a school that prides itself on our strong community relationships and these WhatsApp Groups will allow you to build friendships between families in each class.
What these WhatsApp Groups are:
A place for families to come together to arrange social activities (e.g. parties, play dates, coffee mornings and evening drinks)
A place for occasional reminders (e.g. remembering Dress Up Days!)
What these WhatsApp Groups aren't:
A school communication channel (we will continue to share all school information via the fortnightly Newsletters, school emails and our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/NexusSchoolSG/) - please do make sure you read these to find out all that is going on in school
A place for discussing individual learners
A place to raise issues (we welcome all feedback and encourage you to contact us directly with any concerns you have so that we can help to resolve them)
We are delighted that a large group of parents have agreed to help to administer these WhatsApp Groups. The Singapore Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) does not allow us to share your personal information with them so we are not able to automatically add you to the appropriate WhatsApp Group. Instead, you can message these parents so that they can add you to the group.
If you would like to join this informal class group, please contact Learner Services (learnerservices@nexus.edu.sg) and they will be able to provide your WhatsApp group administrator's details. Simply send a text to the administrator with the following information:
Your name (first name and family name)
Your child's name (first name and family name)
Your mobile phone number
If you have children in different classes, please text the administrator of each class.
Once again, thanks to all the parents for supporting our school community. We are sure that you will find this informal social network very valuable throughout the year.
We enjoy celebrating children's birthdays at school. Many families like to bring in a sweet treat for the learners to share. Unfortunately, due to the current restrictions, we are unable to allow families to bring treats from home.
As an alternative, families can purchase cupcakes from Victus - our in-school catering team. These are made on-site following the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) standards and delivered directly to class. If you would like to consider this option, please contact the Victus team. Their details are on the Parent Zone of our website.
Please may we remind all families that at school learners are expected to wear masks at all times (except when involved in sports or eating/drinking).
We are noticing that a number of learners have masks that do not fit securely. This is particularly true of the reusable masks, where the elastic ear straps or the wire nose bridge become loose over time.
This weekend, please may you check your child's masks fit securely and remind them of the importance of wearing their masks properly at all times.
