Happy New Year! Welcome to Term 3 and the start of Semester 2.
I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the learners back in school and engaged in their learning. Please take a look at the 'News From the Year Groups' section to learn more about the new and ongoing Units of Inquiry happening in our learning spaces. A warm welcome to our new learners and their families. We hope you have experienced the wonderful community 'feeling' as you have joined us. Please do reach out if you have any comments or questions.
We continue to grow and have opened a new Kindergarten class for this semester. Ms Bhavana joins us as the new KR Homeroom Teacher, we are delighted to have her back from maternity leave. We have also welcomed many new classroom assistants across the primary school. Mr Sam has joined our Year 3 team, Mr Brian - our Year 1 team, Ms Sook - our Kindergarten team, Ms Grace and Ms Anamika - our Nursery team and Ms Kathleen - our BML team. It is a pleasure to have them all on board.
This week, our main event has been the Year 6 Film Festival 2022. On Wednesday, learners and families of Year 6 enjoyed a virtual Film Festival event. Our Year 6 learners got to enjoy a full Film Festival experience watching their films with popcorn and a drink. Take a look at the 'Recent Events' section for some photos of Year 6 in action and on the virtual red carpet.
As we start the semester, I would like to outline the key ways we communicate with our families. Please make sure that you connect with these various channels so that you can best support your child in their learning journey:
Facebook Page (click here) - a space where we celebrate all that is happening in the Nexus community.
Parent Zone (click here) - a one-stop source to find all the key information you need about life at Nexus. For example, you can view the school calendar and find out more about our CCA, Music and Sport programmes.
SeeSaw App - we offer a ‘window into the classroom’ via the SeeSaw App. This is the regular ongoing communication method we will use to share news and home learning from your child's class. If you need some help to set up the app, please email our IT team.
Every class in our Primary School has a WhatsApp Group. These groups will allow you to build friendships between families in each class. For further information on the WhatsApp Groups, please go to the Important Notices section.
We also have our fortnightly Newsletters. They are a crucial part of our communication with our whole community. It is where we include information about any upcoming events, our recent happenings and also, post important notices. The different sections can be accessed from the menu across the top of the screen (on large screens such as laptops and iPads) or the 'triple bar' icon on the top left (on small screens, e.g. phones).
Happy Lunar New Year. I hope the year of the Water Tiger brings us all health and success.
春节快乐
Best wishes
Ms Fiona
Head of Primary
In assembly today as well as celebrating our Y6 Film Festival, we thought a bit about collaboration and the things we can do and achieve when we collaborate. We read the book Swimmy By Leo Lionni and shared the things we do better when we collaborate on a live Jamboard. I've shared them below for you to see the learners' thoughts.
