Year 6 Digital Exhibition & Welcome Breakfast

Date: Monday, 26 August

Time: 8:30am - 9:45am

Location: Cafeteria followed by D1

Unit of Inquiry: Our focus is to learn how we can use our devices safely and responsibly as well as be enthusiastic, independent learners. (‘How We Organise Ourselves’)

In order to build community, the learners have agreed to organise a shared potluck breakfast. (Please note that we are a nut-free school.) Breakfast will begin at 8:30am and the programme will conclude at approximately 9:45am. Further details will follow. It will be a wonderful opportunity for us to come together as a Year 6 learning community and all parents and guardians are invited.

Year 3 Residential Trip

Date: Thursday, 26 and Friday, 27 September

Venue: 'Camp Challenge', Sembawang, Singapore

Purpose: Develop team building skills, confidence, resilience, decision making, personal organisation skills, learn how to support others, and make new friends.

Unit of Inquiry: This trip will support learning within our Unit of Inquiry the Central Idea of which is 'Groups connect people with differences'.

Activities: Rock climbing. raft building, team games; camp fire activities, team challenges, washing up, making a bed.

Parent Information Meeting: Friday, 23 August at 8.40am to 9.20am in the Multi-purpose Room on Level 2 (to the left of D2 pod). Year 3 parents and carers are cordially invited to attend this meeting to find out more information about our Year 3 residential trip to Sembawang.

Year 4 Residential Trip

Date: Wednesday, 27 to Friday, 29 November

Venue: Malacca, Malaysia

Purpose: Learn about the history of Malacca and its connection to Singapore to support our unit of inquiry, develop confidence, resilience, personal organisation skills, learn how to support others, and make new friends.

Unit of Inquiry: This trip will support learning within our Unit of Inquiry the Central Idea of which is 'Migration of people changes places and communities over time'.

Activities: Visiting museums and key historical locations, traditional local games, batik painting, traditional craft activity, boat cruise and a visit to a local botanical garden.

Parent Information Meeting: Friday, 25 October at 8.40 am to 9.20am in the Multi-purpose Room on Level 2 (to the left of D2 pod). Year 4 parents and carers are cordially invited to attend this meeting to find out more information about our Year 4 residential trip to Malacca, Malaysia.

Nursery and Kindergarten 'Stay & Play' Sessions

On Wednesday, 28 August, Nursery welcomes our families to join us for our first 'Stay & Play' session of the year. Kindergarten will hold their session for families on Friday, 30 August. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to spend time with your child in our wonderful learning spaces and engage in some of the learning opportunities together. The sessions will run from drop off at 8.15am until 9.15am.

Hairspray is this year's show!

AUDITIONS

Nexus will present the musical ‘HAIRSPRAY JR’ in March 2020, the inaugural show in our new auditorium! We would like to invite learners interested in playing any of the speaking and singing roles to audition on the following days in August:

Tuesday the 20th (Years 5, 6 and 7) 3.30pm – 5pm

OR

Thursday the 15th (Years 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12) 3.30pm – 5pm

If you are a female performer please prepare to sing ‘Good Morning Baltimore’

If you are a male performer please prepare to sing ‘Ladies’ Choice’

Learners should be prepared to read for roles, by knowing the characters in the musical. You can do this by watching the film.

Learners should be aware that if they are successful in their auditions, they will need to be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and will therefore not be able to join ECAs/CCAs scheduled on those days.
