Instrumental Lessons at Nexus

We are delighted to inform you that our new Instrumental Music Programme is now open for registration. This programme, which covers a wide array of instruments and vocals, has been designed to help develop your child’s passion and skills in all stages of their musical journey. Additional instrumental lessons can help improve academic achievement, boost social skills when joining an ensemble or band, and build confidence through performance.

Visiting instrumental teachers support both curricular and extra-curricular music at the school by helping learners prepare for recitals, join school performances and participating in extra-curricular groups. Each 30 minute individual lesson is charged at $50.

To register your child for the Instrumental Music programme please follow the link on the Parent Portal. Should you have any other queries, please contact our Music team at music@nexus.edu.sg

If you have already registered your child for lessons they will commence from Monday 19 August. Timetables are currently being formulated and will be forwarded directly to parents and learners. Thank you for your patience, we have been overwhelmed with the number of young learners interested in making music!

Instrumental Petting Zoo

Such fun has been had during Primary lunchtimes this week ... what a blast! Primary learners had the opportunity to touch, feel, blow or bow a range of instruments at our annual Instrumental Petting Zoo. (It's a little like try before you buy!)

We have a range of learners in the Primary school interested in learning an instrument. However, often they are unsure of which one to pick so this was a great opportunity for them to get up close and personal!

Here are a few tips on how to select an instrument for your child:

1. What instrument do they like!? This is the most important. If they love an instrument they are going to want to play and practise often.

2. Age of the child (Violin and piano are generally popular with younger children due to their size).

3. Personality (out-going personalities tend to enjoy loud saxophones and trumpets, whereas other children prefer flutes or violins) Have a read of the link, it is really interesting!

4. Your home. Where you live is important, can you fit a piano? What will neighbours think of a drum kit?

5. Physical strength. Instruments such as bassoon or trombone are often heavy. However these days there are cheaper and plastic alternatives to assist young learners.
