The start of the 2019-2020 academic year at Nexus has been wonderful. It has been lovely to say hello to returning learners and to warmly welcome over 180 new learners and families. It was great to see so many parents at our Welcome Evening on Wednesday. Thank you for joining us to find out more about the school routines and systems and to meet your child's teachers for the year ahead.
During these weeks we know that you, as parents have worked hard to set your children up for success in a new academic year and, for some a new school and maybe a new country. Now it's time to set yourselves up for a successful year! There are some key communication tools we use in school to share what is happening in our Nexus community. Please make sure you've connected to these ...
Facebook Page (click here) - a space where we celebrate all that is happening in the Nexus community.
NPG Facebook Page (click here) - an opportunity for the Nexus Parent Group to share the events and activities they have running over the year.
Parent Zone (click here) - a one-stop place to find all the key information you need about life at Nexus. Whether it is viewing the school events calendar; finding out about our CCA, Music and Sport programmes; viewingdetails of our school residential trips and more ... this is the place to get all the practical information you will need about school life.
The Nexus Hub App - In Primary School, this is our 'window into the classroom'. Once you download the app to your device you will receive regular notifications from our teachers about the exciting learning engagements going on inside the classroom. This video gives you an overview of the download and login process. (Note that the video doesn't have sound, but takes you through in real-time how to set up your device.) If you have any issues with using the App to access the Hub then please drop into the IT team in the C1 pod (near the main reception).
And of course, our fornightly Newsletters will also be full of exciting news. As well as this front page, that has our 'live' calendar displayed below, we have a range of other sections to look out for. These sections can be accessed from the menu across the top of the screen (on large screens such as laptops and i-pads) or the 'triple bar' icon in the top left (on small screens, eg: phones). Sections include:
Another exciting way to find out more about our learning community at Nexus is to come along to our regular Parent Workshops. Upcoming workshops include a focus on Restorative Practices as well as a week of workshops designed specifically for family helpers. Full details of the Parent Workshops will be published soon.
As we start the academic year, it is always a time when the school comes together to celebrate learners in our Secondary School who have completed their IB Dipolma and IGCSE examinations. We were delighted to receive another set of strong results at both IB Diploma (Year 13) and IGCSE (Year 11). The learners worked so hard to achieve some outstanding outcomes, including a highly-prized near-perfect Diploma score for Shubanghi Goel. We are so proud of all of these learners and appreciate the hard work of the teachers across the school in supporting these young adults on their learning jounreys through Nexus.
Please note due to the move to our new school, the academic calendar for this year differs slightly to our usual academic calendar. A copy of this year's calendar is available here. Details of activities and events are available on the Parent Zones.
As you can see from everything written above, we have a wonderfully vibrant learning community with many exciting learning opportunities and experiences. We do encourage all parents to get involved in the life of the school and join us in supporting their children on their learning journey.
With warm regards,
Paul Beach
Head of Primary School
