Dear Parents and Caregivers
I hope you have had a good week. Since the last newsletter we have enjoyed Nexus Beats, Gamelan workshops, Year 2 trip to the ArtScience Museum, and Year 3 mini exhibition, with many parents being welcomed into school.
It has been a pleasure to see the smiling faces as we've started to open up. If you have been able to join us for any activities I hope you have enjoyed hearing about your child's learning.
As we continue with our sharing of the PYP framework this week we will be focusing on Agency and Action. In February we shared how the IB define learner agency as
“Agency is the power to take meaningful and intentional action, and acknowledges the rights and responsibilities of the individual, supporting voice, choice and ownership…” IBO November 2017
Here at Nexus this means our learners are actively involved in their learning, making choices and taking actions. Action can be personal or collective and in the form of:
Participation
Advocacy
Social Justice
Social Entrepreneurship
Lifestyle Choices
The actions our learners take are connected to their learner agency and linked with the learner profile attributes. It can look like a learner bringing in a book to share, on a subject they are inquiring into, or participating in an event to raise awareness of a cause or movement they have made a connection with. Actions are authentic and meaningful, with the intention of generating change.
In this weeks News from the Year Groups we have focused on Agency and Action - so please do take a look. In addition we will be running a Parent Workshop on 'Agency and Action in the Primary School' next week on Tuesday, 17 May. Please go to our 'Upcoming Events' page for further information.
Enjoy the long weekend ahead.
Best wishes
Fiona Lewis
