A group of our Year 12 learners were awarded certificates by Edexcel Pearson IGCSE Examination Board for high academic achievement in their IGCSEs. These were awarded to learners who achieved the highest grades in a number of subjects. Well done to all those learners - we are very proud of your achievements.
Minh Le also received recognition for his exceptional achievement of achieving the highest Further Pure Maths IGCSE result in Singapore.
Junior Achievement Awards
We also acknowledged those learners involved in our very successful Junior Achievement programme. The two JA groups presented their business pitches to learners in Y11-Y13 and reflected on their experiences. Learners received certificates and prizes for their participation. We hope many of the Y11s were inspired to be involved in this next year!
IB LEARNER PROFILE
We regularly celebrate our learners who have been recognised for demonstrating IB learner profile attributes in our Learner Bulletin. Where possible we also highlight them in assemblies as well. Many of our learners demonstrate these attributes on a daily basis but those celebrated in this assembly have been acknowledged by teachers on numerous occasions throughout the term. Well done to all.
The Handlebards came back for their second year in a row at Nexus with their uproarious rendition of Shakespeare's Macbeth, leaving learners and staff alike in stitches. Their unique approach to the classic tragedy infused the stage with laughter and energy, captivating us from start to finish.
Before the performance, the actresses facilitated an engaging workshop for our Year 10 students, imparting invaluable insights into character-building for Shakespearean roles. We're immensely grateful to the Handlebards for coming back to Nexus and providing this wonderful opportunity, enriching our school community and fostering a love for theatre among our learners.
For the month of February, Year 8 has focused on actively being kind, caring and courteous to others. We have made Kindness Postcards and sent these to our friends as well as completing a Kindness Bingo card.
Teachers nominated those learners they had seen be exceptionally kind to others and we celebrated these by adding them to Daybook and sharing our feats on our bulletin.
It was lovely to hear about the thoughtful behaviours our Year 8s are displaying and we hope for this to continue long in to the future!
Special thanks to Mary and Mathias for helping present the launch assembly and for delivering the Kindness Postcards with enthusiasm.
In a world where you can be anything, be kind.
Our Year 7 learners have been on an enriching journey delving into the timeless Greek tragedy, Antigone, as part of their drama project this semester. Exploring the origins of Western theatre, they researched into Greek drama elements, embracing the use of masks and the presence of a Greek chorus. Through rehearsals and exploration, the y7's have been meticulously crafting their interpretation of this classic tale. As they prepare for an in-class performance, anticipation mounts, showcasing not only their understanding of ancient theatrical traditions but also their creativity and commitment to the craft.
Please make sure you check the examination schedules before booking travel. The IBDP examination schedule is already published for May 2024. The IGCSE schedule has been confirmed IGCSE May-June Exams 2024.
Please note external examinations may fall on public holidays or run in the evening and the school has no control over these dates. External examination dates cannot be rearranged by the school.
Internal trial examinations for Year 12 run between 4th and 11th March.
Internal trial examinations for Year 10 run between 2nd and 12th April.
The learners have continued planning their Community Projects and during March and April, the teams will take action! Keep an eye out for some events where you can show your support. Actions include advocacy campaigns, volunteering, bake sales, beach cleanups, dog walking and so much more.
At this point, it is encouraged to engage in discussions with your child about their project ideas, offer guidance, and provide encouragement throughout the project development process.
