Our Year 2 French learners recently visited the S.E.A Aquarium in Sentosa, where they discovered the amazing world of underwater creatures. As they explored the exhibits, they practised their French vocabulary, eagerly identifying and describing fish, sharks, jellyfish, dolphins, manta rays and many more. This day trip was filled with discoveries and excitement as our learners returned to Nexus, all smiling and excited to share their adventures.

In celebration of a sustainable and inclusive future, the Year 2s had the joy of celebrating International Home Language Day on 21st February. With one of the Global Sustainable Development Goals being to deliver Quality Education, the NEXUS community strives to mark the importance of our home languages. Year 2 parents were invited to read a story of their choice to the learners. Our Year 2s relished listening to different stories narrated in their home language or a new language they wished to listen to. We were fortunate to enjoy a myriad of deliveries of stories from all over the world, with some of the learners picking up a new phrase while others were thrilled over the atmosphere alone. We hope that through this occasion, the Year 2 learners have developed a stronger sense of belonging and understand that everyone has a part to play in the school’s diverse and inclusive culture!
Background: UNESCO established International Mother Language Day in 1999 to commemorate the language movement in Bangladesh. It emphasises the importance of preserving linguistic diversity and promoting multilingualism for sustainable development. The importance of mother (home) languages in cultural identity, education, and social cohesion should also be celebrated in schools, which is why the Year 2 team has started this celebration at Nexus.
