In celebration of the Year of the Snake, Primary learners will be participating in a variety of cultural activities and assemblies whilst Secondary learners will have an opportunity to share the diverse ways of celebrating Lunar New Year. All learners will also be invited to watch a special Lion Dance performance.
We would love for you to join in the celebrations. You are welcome to join us for various cultural activities in the Level 1 MPH on Thursday 23rd January from 15:30-16:00 and you are also invited to watch the Lion Dance performance from the Level 2 walkway on Friday 24th January at 8:40am. Unfortunately, in the case of bad weather the performance will have to be moved indoors to the sports halls - in which case, we will be unable to accommodate parents.
We invite all learners to wear red, gold or traditional Chinese clothing on Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th January.
Please note that the school will be closed for Lunar New Year on Wednesday 29th January, Thursday 30th January and Friday 31st January. We will return to school on Monday 3rd February.
We are excited to announce that our annual Book Character Dress-Up Day is just around the corner! This much-anticipated event is part of Nexus Book Week. It celebrates a love for reading, creativity, and fun as learners have the opportunity to dress up as their favourite book characters.
Event Details:
What: Book Character Dress Up Day
Who: Primary Learners, Secondary Learners, Staff
Date: Friday 7th March, 2025
Time: During school hours
What You Need to Know:
Start Planning Early: Help your child pick a character from their favourite book or series. This is a wonderful opportunity to revisit beloved stories or explore new ones!
DIY or Pre-made Costumes: Costumes don’t need to be elaborate or store-bought. Simple, creative, and homemade outfits are always encouraged!
Props: Small, non-distracting props that complement the character are welcome but should be labelled with your child’s name. Please avoid any items that could be considered unsafe or inappropriate for school.
Label Books: If your child brings the book featuring their character, please ensure it is labelled with their name to avoid mix-ups.
Tips for Choosing a Character:
Think about characters that inspire your child or connect to stories they love.
Look for characters with easily recognisable costumes or features.
Encourage your child to share their excitement about their character choice with classmates!
This day is always a highlight of the school year, and we can’t wait to see the creativity and excitement it brings. Thank you for your support in making this event a fun and memorable experience for all!

Y11 and 12 Musicians Grace, Ari, Tomas and Alex are off to the FOBISIA Battle of the Bands competition to represent our school in the High School Rock Band category hosted by Nexus Malaysia this week.
These learners formed the rock band 'Red Prawn' a few years ago and have been a huge part of NEXUS Beats as well as organising their own gigs and performances outside of school. We wish them all the best as they participate in workshops led by professional artists and producers who have been flown in for the weekend as well as the final 'battle!' Thank you for representing our school and music department.
Calling all Wind and Brass Players at Nexus
All learners having lessons on the following instruments (flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, french horn or tuba) at Nexus will have received an email regarding the upcoming 'Wind/Brass' Day held at Tanglin Trust School on Saturday 8 February 11-4pm.
This is a great opportunity to participate in workshops ran by the "Desford Colliery band" from the UK and meet James Morrison; professional jazz musician from Australia. Other International Schools will be participating and the day promises to be a fantastic learning event as well as a mini performance to parents at the end of the day. (Check your inboxes!)
