Dear Primary Families,
A warm welcome to our new families and a welcome back to Term 3 for our returning families. I hope you were able to enjoy some quality time together over the recent break.
We’ve hit the ground running this term, focussing on our learning. This week, we've placed a special spotlight on Maths, with our well-attended Maths Parent Workshop and Family Maths Afternoon. Thank you to everyone who joined us. It’s wonderful to see so many families actively engaging with our learning community.
As we kick off the new semester and welcome many new families, I’d like to take a moment to remind everyone of our key communication channels. Staying connected is essential to supporting your child’s learning journey, so please make sure to engage with the following:
Facebook Page (click here) – A place where we celebrate everything happening in the Nexus community.
Parent Zone (click here) – Your one-stop shop for key information about life at Nexus, including the school calendar and details on our CCA, Music, and Sports programmes.
SeeSaw App – A ‘window into the classroom’ where we regularly share news and home learning updates from your child’s class. If you need help setting it up, feel free to email our IT team or Digital Coach at thompson.s@nexus.edu.sg.
WhatsApp Groups – Each class has a WhatsApp group to help families connect and build relationships. For more details, please reach out to Learner Services at learnerservices@nexus.edu.sg.
Additionally, we send out these fortnightly newsletters to keep you informed about upcoming events, recent activities, and important notices. You can navigate the different sections via the menu at the top of the screen (on larger devices like laptops and iPads) or through the ‘triple bar’ icon (on smaller devices like phones).
To ensure clear and effective communication, if you ever need to discuss your child’s progress or wellbeing, please start by contacting your child’s homeroom or specialist subject teacher. If further support is needed, feel free to reach out to the Year Leader or Learning Area Leader. Any inquiries can then be escalated to the Primary Senior Leadership Team if necessary.
Term 3 is shaping up to be an exciting one, with lots of activities to look forward to – including residential camps, Lunar New Year celebrations, Learner Led Conferences, Art Splash, Day Trips, and the Primary Production. Please continue to stay connected via SeeSaw as we regularly update it with classroom happenings.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend ahead!
Warm regards,
Fiona Lewis

Happy New Year to you all! We are so excited to welcome everyone back with energy and enthusiasm as we dive into the new term together. Our growing community is buzzing as we settle back into routines, reconnect with familiar friends and warmly welcome new families and friends. The children are settling in beautifully and are engaging with their learning in such meaningful and creative ways exploring the learning environment and building relationships through play.
We have enjoyed gathering together again as a Nursery community during our daily circle times. The children have been working collaboratively to solve problems and actively engage in counting how many children are at school. This learning time is fun and hands-on, using number cards, number lines and visual resources to support children’s understanding. This has been a great way to become familiar with our new friends and has promoted our sense of community in the Nursery. It also aligns with our Unit of Inquiry, ‘Who we are’ which is threaded through the year. We provide many Mathematical opportunities embedded in our daily routine, and the children can transfer their knowledge and understanding through play.
We look forward to observing all the incredible growth and learning this term will bring!
What a wonderful start to Term 3! We are excited to extend a warm welcome to the 14 new families who have joined our Kindergarten community. It has been a pleasure to watch our new learners settle in, familiarise themselves with our routines, and foster new friendships. As we have welcomed new friends into our classes, it has been the perfect opportunity to get to know each other a little better. What better way to do that than through data collection during our maths lessons!
As part of our learning journey, we discovered new information about each other by collecting and interpreting data. We discovered similarities, and sparked curiosity by posing new questions to answer. This inquiry-based approach to mathematics has been a wonderful way to connect with one another and start the term with a shared sense of discovery.
But the magic of maths doesn’t stop there in Kindergarten! We are inquiring mathematicians every day through all of our play. Math is not just a subject—it’s embedded into our daily activities and interactions. Whether it's sorting, counting, measuring, or exploring shapes, we are constantly engaging in mathematical thinking.
You would have seen just how integral maths is to our play during our Family Math Day Stay and Play this afternoon. Thank you to all the families who joined us! From accepting change at our café and using shapes to create intricate masterpieces, to counting blocks to make sure everyone has a seat on our train and matching numbers with materials, we were able to highlight just how much mathematical learning happens through hands-on, playful exploration.
Our Kindergarten environment is a dynamic space where play and inquiry go hand in hand. Maths is everywhere—whether it’s in the dramatic play area, building towers with blocks, or measuring ingredients in our kitchen. It’s through these everyday experiences that our young learners are building a solid foundation in mathematical thinking.
A warm welcome to all our new families who have joined us this term. We hope you had a restful break, and for those who have recently moved to Singapore, we trust you're settling into this vibrant city. The start of the new school term has been buzzing with excitement, and it’s been wonderful to hear about all the learners’ adventures, whether overseas or here in Singapore.
As we ease back into school routines, our focus for Year 1 learners will be on developing essential self-management skills. These include:
Organisation: Managing time and tasks effectively.
Emotional Management: Taking responsibility for actions and learning strategies to reduce stress and anxiety.
Conflict Resolution: Managing anger and resolving conflicts constructively.
While these may seem like ambitious goals for young learners, with guidance and support, they are embracing these challenges with enthusiasm. Simple steps, like ensuring they have the right resources for activities or choosing appropriate workspaces, are helping them build a foundation of self-management skills that will serve them well both in and out of school. As we embark on our new Unit of Inquiry exploring the central idea ‘People can apply their understanding of forces to invent and create’ these skills will be integrated and developed throughout the term.
Thank you to everyone who attended our Family Maths Afternoon! We thoroughly enjoyed sharing a glimpse of the mathematical concepts we are currently inquiring. We also looking forward to our upcoming field trip to the Science Centre next month and —stay tuned for more details soon.
Here’s to a fantastic term ahead.
Welcome to Term 3! What a wonderful way to end the week with Family Maths Afternoon. Thank you to those families who were able to take time from their schedules to be a part of your child’s mathematical learning journey. We hope you had fun playing the games and took some ideas home with you.
We are thrilled to begin next week with an exciting Mini-Exhibition focusing on the theme "How we express ourselves." Throughout this unit of inquiry, learners have explored the central idea: People use stories to express themselves, diving into storytelling as a powerful means of communication and creativity. The Mini-Exhibition will allow learners to share their unique voices, connect with diverse perspectives, and celebrate the rich tradition of storytelling.
After the Lunar New Year break Year 2 will begin to explore a new unit of inquiry under the “Sharing the planet” theme, with the central idea: People’s actions impact living things and their environment. Our lines of inquiry will include:
How different environments meet the needs of living things (connection).
The impact of our actions on living things (causation).
Our responsibility to living things (responsibility).
We always try to connect our Mathematics concepts authentically. This term Mathematics learning will connect to the inquiries through practical applications:
Multiplication and Division: Using visuals and manipulatives to solve problems and understand equal groups.
Measurement: Estimating and measuring length, mass, volume, and capacity.
Problem-Solving: Applying strategies like drawing and modelling to solve real-world problems.
We look forward to a term filled with creativity, discovery, and meaningful connections. Thank you for your continued support as we encourage learners to explore, express, and grow!
What a brilliant start to Term 3!
This term, we are excitedly preparing for our upcoming Residential Trip (camp) to Loyang, Pasir Ris, Singapore, happening during the week of February 10th–14th. In alignment with our Unit of Inquiry, How We Organise Ourselves, learners are creating systems to ensure they feel ready and confident for their first night away with peers. This experience provides a wonderful opportunity for them to develop independence, collaboration, and problem-solving skills in a fun and supportive environment.
Specific Camp Dates:
February 10th -11th: 3P, 3A, 3B
February 13th - 14th: 3R, 3G, 3W
After the Lunar New Year break, Year 3 will begin to explore a new unit of inquiry, “How the world works”, with the central idea: Forces change the natural environment. Our lines of inquiry will include:
The Earth has different natural features (Form).
Natural phenomena shape the planet (Causation).
Human adaptations to Earth's changes (Change).
To everyone who was able to join us for our Family Maths Afternoon, Thank You for coming! During this event, learners were able to share some of the fun games and activities they have been engaging with to build their skills and confidence with numbers. It was a great opportunity for families to connect with their child’s learning and explore how mathematics comes alive in the classroom.
Wow what a wonderful start Year 4 have had to Semester 2. Firstly a warm welcome to our new Nexus learners and their families. It is so lovely to have you in our year group and part of our community.
During Week One our learners enjoyed a visit to Marina Barrage and the Sustainability Gallery. This complemented our Unit of Inquiry focused on 'Water as an essential resource'. Learners were able to find out more about the 'Four Taps' of Singapore and view a model of the barrage. This showed them the the process of water being released from the reservoir, into the ocean, avoiding flooding in our city centre. Back at school learners are now using their knowledge and understanding to write their NEX Talks, in preparation for sharing with their families next Monday and Tuesday. Language Arts and Unit of Inquiry are integrated, as learners are using the writing process to create their persuasive speech. Over the next week learners will be editing, conferencing and reflecting on the techniques they can use to persuade and inform their audience.
A reminder that our NEX talk times are:
Monday 27th January,10.15am, 4B, 4G, 4P.Please come to our Year 4 pod on Level 7.
Tuesday 28th January,10.15am, 4R, 4W. Please come to our Year 4 pod on Level 7.
Our Family Maths afternoon was fantastic! Our pod was buzzing with excitement as dice were rolled and successes were celebrated. All activities are available to families via the QR code for each year group. This can be found in our newsletter. We encourage families to play these with their children at home. They provide fun and learning, which helps concepts and understandings to be consolidated.
We have a few exciting events coming up in Year 4 and the primary school over the next month. We encourage families to regularly check the upcoming events, your email account and also seesaw.
We look forward to a term of authentic learning and growth.
A warm welcome back to all our learners and families!
This term, Year 5 is exploring the unit Who We Are, examining how our bodies, behaviours, and responsibilities change as we grow up. The main emphasis is on developing research questions to investigate an aspect of well-being. As part of this, Ms. Serene, our teacher-librarian, visited all classes to help learners tune into topics and formulate thoughtful research questions.
In Language Arts, we’ve been working on poetry, with learners creating their own Haikus and Tankas. They have been exploring figurative language, such as similes and metaphors, to make their writing more vivid and expressive. Learners also used AI tools to generate images that bring their poems to life, sparking engaging discussions about word choice and imagery. This term, they will continue exploring a range of poetry, including Haikus and Tankas.
In Digital Skills, our Year Group assembly this Friday centred on shared expectations for iPad use in school. We discussed the importance of staying school-focused by limiting notifications and avoiding apps such as Messenger during the school day. Learners also analysed the results of a screen time survey conducted by Ms. Stephanie, reflecting on what they feel is a healthy amount of screen time. This led to thoughtful conversations about balance and making mindful choices with technology.
Over the next few weeks in maths, we will be building a strong understanding of fractions and decimals, essential skills for applying mathematical concepts in everyday life. We hope you enjoyed today’s Family Maths Afternoon, where learners shared engaging activities to develop number skills. We encourage families to continue playing these games at home, not only from Year 5 but also from other year groups, to keep the fun and learning going!
Looking ahead, we’re excited about the Year 5 camp to Loola Adventure Camp on Bintan from February 19th–21st. We will begin preparing learners for the trip after the Lunar New Year break.
A warm welcome to our new learners and families joining us. We’re kicking things off with our unit “How we express ourselves,” where we’ll explore ways people share their ideas, feelings, and culture through art and creativity. As part of this, learners participated in an art rotation where they moved between classrooms to try out different art styles like drawing, sculpture, photography, and drama. For this unit we have begun to explore how we can express ourselves through poetry. Learners will play with figurative language, and create some original work.
All Year 6 classes will have an assembly this term. Your child's homeroom teacher will send you information with more specific information.
