The Christmas Fair brought together music across the school. It was a wonderful celebration of individual soloists, small groups, DJ's, music ensembles and even our community choir featured!
Our two Very Pri-Merry Christmas Concerts were certainly highlights at the Christmas Fair last Friday 8th December. We had more than 240 learners across Years 1-6 who either sang, participated in our orchestra, ukulele ensemble or our primary rock bands and really celebrated the breadth and depth that our Primary Music Dept has to offer. Our audience got into the spirit of the Christmas Carol sing-along at our 6pm concert, and our 2:45pm concert celebrated the 200 learners who we have in our Years 1-4 Choirs and singing groups.
In the atrium the sound of music wafted through levels 2-4 serenading shoppers and those waiting for Santa! It was lovely to have LAMDA involved as well as a range of Secondary musical performances to bring positive vibes the the fair.
A huge thank you to all our music learners, the primary and secondary music departments, our wonderful AV tech team and crew and the NCG for supporting this event.
An absolutely incredible whole school msuic event led by our Primary and Secondary Choir plus Secondary Orchestra. Our Carols brought the whole community together through song and certainly left us all feeling even more festive and ready for the Christmas holidays.
Our audiences were also serenaded while they waited for our doors to be opened by the Secondary Chamber Ensemble and newly formed Community Choir. Afterwards everyone celebrated with complementary mulled wine, hot chocolate, ginger cookies and mince pies provided by our wonderful and supportive NCG.
From the sweet tones of the Y3-4 Choir led by Mr Serena, combined performances by the orchestra and choir as we enjoyed a screening of 'The Snowman' to the angelic voices of the Secondary Chamber Choir the audience was spell binded by the musical talent across our school.
Our young musicians are amazing and dedicate so much time and effort to their instruments and ensmeble rehearsals. The evening was truely a celebration of music. A huge thank you to the NEXUS music team that work with the young musicians daily and organise such events for the community to enjoy.

It has been a pleasure to launch our very first NEXUS Community Choir this term. Singing exercises our hearts, lungs and releases endorphins making us feel good and we have certainly felt good singing weekly, entertaining our community and having fun together. The community choir has been rehearsing each Wednesday afternoon and have performed at the Christmas Fair and Carols by Candlelight.
Next term there is the opportunity for new members to join us. We will run a 2 week session in the lead up to Chinese New Year by learning the traditional Chinese song Mo Li Hua and will perform alongside the Choirs in the CNY assemblies.
In addition later in the year we will put together some more rehearsals and begin preparing for the International Food Fair. If you would like to participate do keep an eye out for posters and notices in the newsletter in term 3 and 4.
If you have any questions please reach out to Clare Lambert lambert.c@nexus.edu.sg
Over this semester, a record number of learners in Year 7, 8 and 9 took part in whole year group trips to Tioman (Malaysia), Telunas (Indonesia) and Perak (Malaysia). These experiences helped our learners make new friendships as they challenge themselves in an unfamiliar environment. Different trips had different objectives, which include developing a greater awareness of the environment and environmental concerns, taking part in a community service project and challenging themselves in a range of adventurous activities.
