Dear Parents and Guardians
As we approach the holiday, I am filled with gratitude and warmth, as I reflect on the amazing moments we've shared as a school community. From academic successes to artistic endeavours, athletic triumphs, and the many community events that have brought us together - each accomplishment has added to the rich tapestry of our school's story. My sincere gratitude goes out to you, our families and guardians, for the unwavering support you have provided. It was particularly lovely to see so many of you at the Christmas Fair.
As we break for the holidays, I encourage you to take this time to relax, rejuvenate, and cherish moments with your loved ones. I hope that laughter and the fun of shared experiences are the backdrop to your break.
Primary Learning summaries have been shared this week, please take the time to discuss with your child the progress they have made, both academically and personally. Our goal is always to promote the holistic development of our learners.
To those families bidding us farewell this term, we extend our heartfelt goodbyes and best wishes. Your presence has been a valuable part of our school, and we wish you every success and happiness in your future endeavours.
Looking forward to Semester 2, I am excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. Our commitment to fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and innovative learning environment remains unwavering. In January, we eagerly anticipate the arrival of new learners and the continued growth of our school community.
For those celebrating Christmas, may this season bring you peace, love, and many moments of joy. To everyone in our diverse community, I wish you a restful and rejuvenating break.

The Nursery semester has been truly delightful. The children have built positive relationships, creating a caring and joyful community. It has been wonderful to witness happy, confident, and independent learners who embrace challenges and solve problems daily. Our play-based learning has provided numerous exciting opportunities, and the children's creativity, curiosity, and inquisitiveness continue to impress us.
An absolute highlight of the Nursery year are our termly Stay and Play sessions. We were delighted to welcome families this Monday to our Christmas Stay and Play and singing. The learners were bubbling with excitement to perform the two songs they had been learning in music. They then confidently lead their parents around the learning space engaging in cookie decorating, Christmas tree decorating and exploring our winter wonderland.
As we bid farewell to this semester, we eagerly anticipate welcoming both familiar and new faces in January 2023. To our existing families, we wish you a magical Christmas filled with happiness and fun!
We have come to the end of a wonderful term in Kindergarten. The learners have formed great friendships and a positive class community has been established. Our Kindergarten continues to grow and we are very excited to welcome new learners and their families to our community in January. The children have really immersed themselves in their learning and confidently approach learning with a smile and enthusiasm. We continue to build children’s resilience, encourage them to take risks and we support all children to develop a growth mindset. We are very proud of the progress and learning that has been achieved.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your support. We have loved working with you all and look forward to continuing your child’s learning journey next year. We wish you all a magical holiday and hope you spend quality time with family, have fun and relax. We look forward to beginning the new term in 2024. Merry Christmas!
As we bid farewell to the past semester, we reflect on a fantastic journey of learning for our Year 1 learners. The academic year kicked off with a focus on their wellbeing, fostering positive relationships within the class community, and equipping them with strategies for self-regulation. Engaging activities such as creating breathing flowers and bracelets, participating in mindfulness sessions, and yoga added a touch of creativity to their learning experiences. As they navigated through new routines, they developed valuable self-management skills that we hope will endure into the new year and beyond.
The semester ends with our 'Sharing the planet' unit, highlighted by the successful sustainable Christmas fair. The journey the learners took us on was incredible, showcasing their commitment and drive into the inquiry of how ‘our choices can change our environment’. They all really impressed us with their enthusiasm throughout. A heartfelt acknowledgement goes out to everyone who contributed to our assemblies. Having the confidence to speak to a large audience and sharing the learning and achievements within our Units of Inquiry is highly commendable. Their participation and your commitment, enriches our school community and inspires others.
We say goodbye to some families embarking on new adventures, and we extend our best wishes for success in their endeavours. To all families, whether celebrating Christmas or taking a well-deserved break, we wish you a rejuvenating and joyous holiday season. Have a fabulous term break, and we eagerly anticipate the opportunities and growth that the New Year will bring.
Year 2 has been on an extraordinary journey of discovery and growth over the past semester. Our learners have delved into a diverse range of inquiries, honing their skills and expanding their knowledge and conceptual understanding across all learning areas.
In Language Arts, learners are currently exploring the art of storytelling through narrative writing. When we reflect on the previous writing genres, we commend our learners on being able to write persuasive texts and write recounts about their personal experiences. Learning how to write different genres fosters their creativity and communication skills. Additionally, Year 2 have been diving into a plethora of fiction and non-fiction texts, enhancing their reading comprehension, inference skills and making connections whilst broadening their horizons.
In Mathematics, our learners have tackled addition, subtraction and place value whilst developing their number knowledge and skills. Understanding symmetry, 2D & 3D shape properties, position and direction were our focus areas through the Shape and Space strand. In Term 1 we enhanced our data handling skills and knowledge, connecting to our Who we are unit of inquiry. Their mathematical understanding continues to blossom as they engage with these foundational concepts and we are so proud of the achievements the learners have made.
But that's not all! Year 2 has also been focusing on the development of research skills and deep thinking skills. Their understanding of Singapore's rich history and culture has been a fascinating part of their learning journey, contributing to their appreciation of our diverse world and connecting to our storytelling unit, where we have been enjoying various cultural stories which use the structure of a narrative but also teach us about cultural practices. Back in Term 1 learners focussed on the importance of balanced lifestyles, emphasising the significance of overall wellbeing.
As we celebrate their achievements, we're excited to witness the ongoing growth and enthusiasm for learning within our Year 2 learners. We're incredibly proud of their accomplishments and look forward to continuing this amazing journey of exploration and learning in Semester 2.
Year 3 has been engaging in a variety of enriching and thought-provoking activities as we approach the Christmas break. Our current Unit of Inquiry has focused on local issues, allowing learners to explore topics such as plastic pollution and shark-fin soup. Additionally, we have addressed issues within our school community and classroom, such as the frustration caused by line-cutting in 3B. This investigation has provided valuable opportunities for reflection and problem-solving, even in seemingly minor matters.
In Mathematics, learners have been tackling the concept of multiplication. This has presented a significant leap for some learners, especially when compared to Year 2. We hope they will demonstrate and practise their newfound skills during the upcoming break.
Regarding Writing, learners have been diligently practising persuasive writing. You may notice that they have become more adept at constructing compelling arguments. Consider yourself warned!
Lastly, on Thursday, we celebrated the Christmas holiday with a shared snack and movie event. Learners brought plates of food to share with their classmates before heading outside to burn off any excess energy. Following this, learners exchanged their Secret Santa gifts. Learners were given a random name to buy a book for and bring to school wrapped. This created so much buzz!
Year 3 has thoroughly enjoyed this semester, and we eagerly anticipate the excitement that Term 3 will bring, particularly with our Year 3 Residential Trip.
Thank you once again for your unwavering support, and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year!
Our Year 4's have had a great semester. They have approached all aspects of school life with energy, determination, enthusiasm and an increasingly mature attitude. Learners have taken big strides forward with their academic learning, developed new friendships, navigated social situations with growing independence and developed their collaboration skills. It has been a privilege to see their development and progress since August.
A big thank you for all the parent support we have received over the semester. We appreciate your communication.
Sadly a few families are leaving Nexus this term. To those who are moving on, we wish you all the best in your next adventure. We also bid 'Farewell' to our CA, Ms Rachel who has supported so many of our Nexus learners over the years. Thank you for everything, Ms Rachel. We are very sorry to see you go, but you depart with our best wishes.
We hope everyone has a very happy, fun-filled and relaxing holiday. We look forward to seeing everyone on Monday 8th January, rested and ready to start the new semester. Happy holidays everyone!
Dear Year 5 Learners and Families,
What a wonderful term it has been, jam-packed with fantastic learning, creativity, and collaboration! The Year 5 team is genuinely impressed by all the personal growth and academic progress that has been happening across Year 5. We are incredibly proud of all our lovely learners.
A standout moment this term was when our learners had the opportunity to create their own countries – a fun, yet challenging, experience where they designed a system of government with its own laws, rights, and budget. Using CoSpaces, they showcased their creativity and tech skills, making their countries come to life through a virtual world. This project also provided an important opportunity for our learners to further develop their self-management, communication, critical thinking, and social skills.
Some other highlights this term included our trip to the Science Center, where we had a blast exploring and interacting with the many amazing exhibits. The learners were also wowed by their visit to the secondary Mega Lab where they got to see Ms. Judy’s thrilling experiments up close! At the end of term, we had a lot of fun turning the coke and mentos demonstration into an actual experiment by deciding what variable we would change. We had another chance to develop our tech skills by presenting our experiments in an iMovie!
Looking ahead, get ready for Year 5’s fantastic science exhibition on January 17th. The learners are very much looking forward to teaching you all about the scientific method and fair testing! They are fully responsible for planning, designing and carrying out their experiments in small groups, and they will be pretty busy when we return from the break. In preparation, the learners will need to bring in the materials for their experiments no later than Tuesday, 9th January.
Don't forget to mark your calendars for Book Week, which is happening 15th-19th January. Our theme this year is "Journey to Another World." On Friday January 19th, we look forward to seeing everyone dress up as their favourite book characters!
Finally, brace yourselves for an absolutely thrilling residential camp in Indonesia on February 21st. Talk about an epic start to 2024 - the excitement is already in the air!
As we head into the holiday season, we wish you all a joyous and fun-filled break. Take this time to rest, recharge, and create wonderful memories with friends and family. Wherever you are, stay safe, and take care of yourself. For our learners and families leaving Nexus or Singapore we wish you the very best on your new adventures. You've been an important part of our community, and we hope you will stay in touch!
Happy holidays and we wish you all a very happy new year!
The Year 5 Team
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we wrap up this semester, it's been quite a journey! From our Expression Session Exhibition to the exciting Changi excursion and all the learning in between, it's been a blast. Our learners are beginning to really understand what being an independent, confident learner looks like, and this will surely help them as we move towards Exhibition in Term 4, and beyond.
We would like to take a moment to thank each of you for your continuous support of all of our learners throughout the semester. As we head into the holiday break, we wish you all a safe and enjoyable time. For those celebrating Christmas, have a fantastic and merry one and for those off on new adventures, we hope that you look back on your time at Nexus with fond memories.
Thanks again for being such a great part of our community and helping make this semester a success.
Best wishes,
The Year 6 team
