With an additional emphasis on service learning, our Year 9s travel to the south of Bintan Island, in Indonesia. The residential trip encompasses three strands; Marine biodiversity and sustainability; Land biodiversity and sustainability and Using the Earth's resources. Learners gain a practical understanding of already familiar and specific UN Global Goals whilst engage directly with local communities in initiatives including a SAFE Water sanitation project, cultural exchange and school visit. They better understand local farming and fish farming methods and learn how small businesses such as handicrafts and fishing can benefit from marketing strategies. There is a strong focus on ecology, encompassing self-sufficiency, farming and sustainable tourism.
