Zaner-Bloser Handwriting:
To instill fantastic letter formation in our littles, we will work solely on handwriting and writing at the sentence level until winter break.
Spelling:
We will introduce a new list of 10 words on Monday and will test on Friday. These words will directly follow our Orton-Gillingham phonics program, testing students on words that review phonograms explicitly taught in their classrooms. When they study at home, your children are given a double exposure to these words and will rock their assessment! Thank you for supporting us!
Orton Gillingham Phonics
All NVCS first grade teachers are fully certified in Orton-Gillingham phonics. This is a Science-of-Reading supported and nationally recognized program to support all learners in their early reading journey through the use of systematic and explicit instruction of phonics. OG is also recognized as a first-level support for students with dyslexia. We are proud to bring this program to our classrooms every day!
