All of Newton North’s Biology courses are an introduction to the rapidly evolving field of modern biology. Topics will include ecology, biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, and evolution. Students will develop skills in the areas of scientific methodology, writing, mathematical analysis, and group collaboration.

The study of protein structure at the level of chemical bonding is not emphasized.
Students learn about protein denaturation, its causes, and its effect on enzymatic activity.
The study of protein structure includes primary structure and references to the attractive forces that fold and twist the chain into a 3-dimensional shape.
Students learn how temperature and pH can denature the protein's overall shape by breaking these attractions. (See attachment for sample assignment.)
The study of protein structure includes primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary structure, emphasizing specific chemical bonds and interactions. (See attachment for sample assignment.)
