The New Fossils
Poem - by J.M. Tanenbaum
Time-distilled blood and bodies of ancient dinosaurs,
And rendered essence of forests that supported them,
Lie as pools of liquid blackness,
or veins of glistening anthracite,
Buried deep within the protecting Earth.
Now puny men, but with powerful tools,
Drill and tunnel for those ebon treasures;
Enslaving and killing their own,
Polluting and profaning their home.
To slake the thirsts and feed the hungers of new dinosaurs,
Who in dying leave no treasures,
only piles of rust and corruption.
