New Home ISD's first student newspaper
What's one thing that you wish to accomplish by the end of this year?
I just would like all my students to have tried their best. To go into the summer without any regrets about their efforts and participation this year.
What's your favorite part of the school day?
My favorite part of the school day is seeing the students every morning and just watching that light bulb moment when they figure something out, or just getting to know everybody and spending time with them.
What's your favorite grade to have?
I like all grades that I teach. I like having high school again, because of the maturity levels, but I really enjoy eighth graders. There's something about 8th grade after Christmas, specifically the boys, as they tend to have matured just a little, and makes it a little more enjoyable.
Out of everything that you teach, what's your favorite class to teach?
Journalism, probably. That was always my passion. Just because that's what I originally majored in college, but English would definitely be right up there too. I like that they go hand in hand.
What's one thing you can change about your classes?
Sometimes, for English, 45 minutes isn't long enough. So sometimes I wish we had the option of maybe doing something like a block schedule. Otherwise, I wouldn't change anything.
If you had a pick between English and journalism, which one would you choose?
Honestly, after this year, I'd maybe pick journalism. I'd really like to start a junior high journalism class so that we can start learning the basics at a younger grade, where as they come into high school, they already have those skills, and that can be a lot more transferable, a lot faster. However, English is my passion in terms of getting to read great novels and having discussions in class -- those moments are priceless, and I look forward to it every year.
