OBSERVING IN THE NORTH EAST
The Society also holds regular members only and public Star Parties, all of which have proved to be a big success with both members and non-members alike. These events are held at a number of locations around the North East. Where visitors may look through the societies telescopes and those provided by the members, weather permitting.
A regular observing programme is organised by the Society and members are encouraged to undertake observations of all kinds of fascinating objects.
Each year the Society holds a special late-summer meeting to observe the ever popular Perseid meteor shower. Always reaching peak activity around August 12th, the shower sometimes can be quite spectacular and is surely an annual event not to be missed.
The Newcastle Astronomical Society has been working along side The Northumberland National Park as part of their Dark Sky initiative. Highlighting how much of outstanding natural beauty is on our doorstep, including bringing to light a place of interest for Astronomers to use in the winter months.

Cawfields is situated 1000 meters away on the other side of the B6318, opposite the Milecastle Inn.
