4 Year Public Universities:
Public universities are 4 year institutions funded by local & state governments. They usually offer lower tuition rates for in-state students. Examples include the UCs, CSUs, and out-of-state public universities.

4 Year Private Universities:
Private universities are typically funded by student tuition & private sources. Financial Aid varies based on campus. Examples include local/out-of-state liberal arts colleges, religious colleges, fine arts colleges, private research universities, and more!

Focuses on preparing students for graduate school and careers in research
Requires a minimum 3.0 GPA to apply
Requires a C- or higher in all A-G courses

SAT/ACT
UC/CSUs do not take standardized test scores into account
Other universities might so make sure to read their admissions websites and eligibility requirements carefully.
If you decide to take the SAT, sign up through CollegeBoard. Make sure you pick a date that will allow you to receive your test scores before your application is due.
