According to the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA), music therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship. Music is used as a motivating tool to address goals related to academic, behavioral, communication skills, and physical coordination skills important to daily life.
Music can also be used to encourage communication and expression, process emotions, process trauma and grief, explore thoughts and feelings, improve mood and concentration, increase relaxation, and aid in developing coping skills.
Thrive Center provides music therapy services to our preschool and elementary-grade students upon referral.
