MyDistrict Virtual School (MDVS) is the name of the online learning option for K-12 students provided by the North East Florida Educational Consortium (NEFEC). Students in grades K-12 who are approved for virtual instruction by their districts may enroll in virtual education courses either full-time or part-time, provided that they meet the state eligibility requirements outlined in F.S. 1002.45.
By selecting MyDistrict Virtual School, you are supporting your school district and allowing your district to continue to grow its virtual instruction program. Students benefit by remaining a district student and are able to participate in district programs and activities.
NEFEC provides virtual program instruction support as a service to its participating small school districts. In most instances:
Students are enrolled across district lines to form courses
NEFEC selects the teacher
NEFEC guides and helps administer the program
The school district oversees the students and administers state/district testing
Each K-12 student in the MyDistrict Virtual School is considered enrolled in the school district of their residence and has access to all of the educational opportunities and resources they would as if they were attending a traditional classroom at a school in their district. Virtual students have day-to-day flexibility while following a traditional school calendar. Students are expected to work in courses each week and complete courses within semester timelines.
Florida Statute 1002.45 allows districts to enter into a multidistrict contractual arrangement executed by a regional consortium service organization established pursuant to s. 1001.451 for its member districts. A multidistrict contractual arrangement or an agreement under subparagraph 3. is not subject to s. 1001.42(4)(d) and does not require the participating school districts to be contiguous.
Please contact your district virtual instruction program contact or Kristi Richburg should you have any questions or concerns about virtual education options.
How do I enroll my child in MDVS?
MDVS does not enroll students without guidance from the district in which the student resides. We are a service that the smaller school districts use to ensure that students have a virtual option.
Contact your district virtual instruction program representative to learn more about the options available to your student.
If your district directs you to register as a home-education student and to take courses with Florida Virtual School (FLVS), use this link to register with FLVS.
If your district enrolls you in their virtual instruction program, you can begin the student registration process. Remember, you are taking classes with MyDistrict Virtual School as a district student who is working from home. Your child is not a home-education student.
