Florida Virtual School (FLVS)

Understanding the Program Your Student is Participating In

MyDistrict Virtual School (MDVS)

Florida school districts are required to offer full-time virtual programs to students who reside in the county. Some small and rural school districts work with MyDistrict Virtual School, a service of North East Florida Educational Consortium, to meet this requirement. MDVS is a franchise of FLVS. As a franchise, we use the FLVS curriculum facilitated by Florida-certified teachers to instruct district students. Please read further to understand more about which program your student participates in as a virtual student.

County Virtual School

Students who participate in virtual instruction with MyDistrict Virtual School are district students. The district program offers courses during the regular 180-day school year per Florida Statute 100.45. Scholars may be a full-time virtual student or a part-time student who needs to take a course to graduate early.

Students in MDVS have a 28-day grace period to complete at least 20% of the segment they are enrolled in before being withdrawn. Students are withdrawn on the 28th day. Do not wait to turn in work on that day. Teachers are provided 48 hours, excluding weekends) to grade your work. If you wait until the last day to turn in work, you may be withdrawn. Full-time students should reach out to their district contact to request courses or be reinstated if withdrawn. Part-time students should contact their school guidance counselor for any concerns they have with their course enrollment.

Students should be able to complete a segment (semester) of a course during an 18 week period (2 floating vacation weeks). In general, this equates to 2-3 assignments per week, per course. Each course provides its own pacing guide. Students should use course pace guides and a calendar to set assignment dates for each course in which they are enrolled. Full-time students can expect to complete course work approximately 6 hours each school day, 1 hour per course.

FLVS Flex

A student who has registered with the district as a Home Education Program student will usually take courses with the FLVS Flex program. Students who register for a course and choose Florida Virtual School are not bound to the 180-days of the school year. They are, however, still required to stay on pace and complete a segment (semester) of a course during a 18 week period.

Students in FLVS Flex have a 14 day grace period to complete at least 15% of the segment they are enrolled in before being withdrawn. You should contact your teacher if you are withdrawn.

As stated above, the district virtual program may only offer courses during the 180-day school year. District students may be directed by a guidance counselor to take a semester of a course with FLVS Flex to complete during the summer.

FLVS Full-Time

Full-time FLVS students are not local district students. FLVS is considered a district in Florida, so FLVS full-time students are FLVS District students. You can learn more about FLVS Full-Time on their website.
