Needham Public Schools has a vibrant and rich Visual Art Department with a variety of offerings that are geared towards meeting student interest and enhancing the development of their artistic voice. The Visual Art classes are for students who are interested in learning more about the visual arts, enjoy creating, and/or are interested in working towards developing a portfolio.
There are both year long and semester based course offerings with multiple pathways towards deepening skill and building a portfolio of work.
The visual arts course sequence guide is organized by media type. We encourage students to both explore and to follow a medium sequence deepening upon individual goals and interests.
Exhibition of student work is a regular practice in the Visual Art Department with multiple opportunities offered to students throughout the year for exhibition of work. There are multiple shows at Gallery 450 throughout the year. The community looks forward to our annual Spring Art Show at NHS and Art in Bloom which is a collaboration with the Temple Beth Shalom Garden Club.
There are multiple art clubs that take place after school that allow students to further deepen their skills and passion. Current clubs include National Art Honor Society, Mud Club, and the Graphic Design Club.
GALLERY 450
Gallery 450 is a unique professional exhibition space at Needham High School that holds several shows throughout the year. Gallery 450 was brought to NHS through a grant written by NHS Art Teachers that was graciously funded by the Needham Education Foundation.
