Fine and Performing Arts
Needham High School
Needham High School
MISSION:
As a result of instruction in the Fine and Performing Arts, all Needham Students will develop skills in and an understanding of creating, performing and presenting, responding, and connecting; the four components of the creative process.
VISION STATEMENT:
As a core academic subject, Needham Public School Students will engage in a rigorous standards based arts education, rooted in the creative process, which further develops a student's ability to communicate, think creatively, problem solve, and collaborate. Social emotional and 21st Century Skills are inherently taught in and through the arts. All students will become skilled in the four components of the creative process as outlined by the National Standards for the Arts and work towards developing the competencies outlined in the Portrait of A Needham Graduate.
At Needham High School all students take at least eight credits of Fine and Performing Arts classes to fulfill their graduation requirements. Many take more as driven by personal interest and goals.
Congratulations to our Needham High School music students for being selected to perform in the 2025 Massachusetts Music Educators Association (MMEA) All State Concert Festival.
Students are selected annually through a rigorous, statewide audition process in January. A score in the top 50% of a regional MMEA festival audition is required in order to qualify for an All State audition.
Those selected for All State are among the top high school musicians in the Commonwealth and will rehearse and perform at Boston Symphony Hall in March.
SCHOLASTIC ART AWARDS
The Scholastic Art Awards honor artwork that demonstrates originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. Students who received a Scholastic Art Award will have their artwork displaced at the Needham Public Library in May.
