We did it!
We entered the New York State Archives Student Research Awards Contest!
We are very proud to announce that five HOH scholars entered the New York State Archives thirty-second annual Student Research Awards Contest! We are very proud!
The program works to " ...promote and recognize excellence in student research. The main purpose of the awards program is to encourage students to explore the wealth of historical records held in historical records repositories in New York State. The program also serves to increase cooperation between schools and organizations that administer historical records useful for education...
Some requirements are:
• Students, working individually, in groups, or a class, [and] develop projects...
• Projects must include an annotated bibliography and use historical records.
• This is a research award contest and, therefore, the final product should answer a research question...
• Students are encouraged to work closely with their teachers, school library media specialists, public librarians, and local historians while working on their projects."

Our Approach to Learning & Research
Horizons-on-the-Hudson (HOH) is an International Baccalaureate (IB) School and while one objective of the IB curriculum is to teach scholars about the larger world community, our first aim is to explore the one in which we live. Our scholars analyze facts and create knowledge content about past and present places and people in our community through an IB lens. They strive to recognize and embody IB Leaner Attitudes (Appreciation, Commitment, Creativity, Confidence, Curiosity, Cooperation, Empathy, Enthusiasm, Independence, Integrity, Respect, and Tolerance), and IB Learner Profiles (Principled, Inquirer, Open-Minded, Communicator, Reflection, Knowledge, Balanced, Risk-Taker, Thinker, and Caring).
