After consulting with your Academic Advisor, please use a request form [which will be made available later in the semester] to submit a formal request to withdraw from a course. Upon receipt of this form and with approval from your advisor, the Office of the Registrar will process your course withdrawal. All requests must be received before 5:00 PM (Eastern Time) on Thursday, November 20th.
When you withdraw from a course at NEC, the class will remain on your transcript and a grade of ‘W’ will be recorded. You will not earn the credits for the course and the withdrawal will not affect your GPA.
Withdrawing from a class will disqualify you from being on the Dean's List this semester even if you have an otherwise eligible record.
It is your responsibility to contact your professor via email to inform them of the withdrawal.
Students are also expected to maintain satisfactory academic progress. NEC defines satisfactory academic progress as the successful completion of at least 67% of all registered credits every semester. Additionally, undergraduates must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 while graduate students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. For more information about this, please see "Academic Standing" in the Academic Catalog.
To calculate your credit completion percentage, take the total number of credits in which you are enrolled this semester, subtract the credits associated with the course form which you wish to withdraw, then divide the smaller number by the larger number. The resulting number is your credit completion percentage, which must be above 67% in order to maintain satisfactory academic progress.
For example, if you are enrolled in 15 credits this semester, and you wish to withdraw from a 2 credit class, you would divide 13 by 15, to get a credit completion percentage of 86.67%, which is above the threshold for satisfactory academic progress. The percentage that you calculate will change if you decide to withdraw from additional course(s) in the future or receive F, F*, INC, IP, or IPD from any other courses at the end of the semester.
Please talk to your academic advisor about any questions regarding satisfactory academic progress.
