Timeline for the Project

This rough overview provides a basic understanding of your work with the project. In the fall, sophomores will receive specific dates and deadlines.

Introduction ~ late May

Introduction to freshmen about the Personal Project. Understand the basics. Investigate topics. Determine best time of year to begin working toward the goal.

Investigation Stage ~ September

Main tasks: decide the goal and gather sources through research

Further tasks: identify your prior knowledge and the project’s global context

Receive a teacher supervisor who helps you understand the project requirements. Meet with this supervisor at least once in September. Remember to bring the Academic Honesty Form to record this meeting as one of the three required sessions.

Planning Stage ~ October

Main tasks: determine the quality of the goal’s product or outcome and develop a work schedule for completing steps toward achieving the goal.

Further tasks: continue to research the topic and journal about the process

Plan to meet again with your teacher supervisor either during Oct. or Nov. Remember to bring the Academic Honesty Form to record this meeting as one of the three required sessions.

You must have finalized the highly-challenging goal by November 1. Adjustments are natural, but completely changing the goal after this date is not permitted.

Taking Action Stage ~ October / November

Main tasks: identify skills you use as you work toward your goal

Further tasks: discuss necessary decisions and changes made to the expected quality of the goal’s product or outcome

If you did not meet with your teacher supervisor In October, schedule an appointment to meeting during November. Remember to bring the Academic Honesty Form to record this meeting as one of the three required sessions.

Reflecting Stage ~ December / January

Main tasks: Evaluate the quality of your results and explain what you have learned about the process of working toward a long-term goal

Further tasks: explain how your knowledge of the topic has expanded and how you have grown as a learner

Meet with your teacher supervisor to share your report rough draft. Remember to bring the Academic Honesty Form to record this meeting as one of the three required sessions.

Final Report ~ early February

Rough draft of final report due for editing and revising session in early February. The final report is due in late February.

Project Exhibition ~ Late January

Each student displays the product/outcome and the report. In addition, a student creates a trifold poster with sections of information based on the criteria. Parent are encouraged to attend!

Assessment ~ February

Final Report assessments are shared with students.

You must achieve a minimum assessment level of "satisfactory" on the report.
