Timeline for College Readiness

What should I be doing to prepare for college?

College Bound Freshman and Sophomores:

* Study and prepare for college admission exams.

* Take the PSAT, TSI, and ASVAB

* Visit the web sites of your top college choices and request admission and scholarship information.

* Talk to your parents about college costs and plan college visits.

* Make sure you understand the admission requirements for your top college choices.

* Study and keep your grades up!

* Be in school. Attendance is the key to success.

College Bound Juniors:

* Take the PSAT in the fall.
* Take the ACT and/or SAT in the spring
* Visit the web sites of your top college choices and request admission and scholarship information.
* Talk to your parents about college costs and plan college visits.
* Make sure you understand the admission requirements for your top college choices.
* Compile a resume and start obtaining letters of recommendation for scholarships and applications
* Check with your counselor to make sure you are on track and have required credits for graduation
* July 1st- first day to start applying for early admission

College Bound Seniors:

* Be aware of scholarship and admission application deadlines!
* Know how to request transcripts
* Visit with your counselor to ensure credits
* Visit the College and Career webpage to help you with the application process

* Check the status of your submitted admission application through the college web site.
* Research financial aid and be prepared to submit your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as soon after Oct. 1st as possible.
