Junior Class service hour expectations:
All 15 hours should fall under the “social justice” guidelines. The determination of what constitutes “social justice” service is open to a great number of interpretations. In place of a “social justice” stipulation, juniors are expected to complete all of their service hours off campus. All other class levels are encouraged to dedicate half their hours serving at such organizations.
Social Justice is defined as any unpaid work and tangible acts of service performed by a student with a legitimate 503c non-profit organization for the benefit and betterment of their community without any form of compensation. Students should be responding to the call to minister to those truly in need of love, hope, and compassion. Within Social Justice, students engage directly and face-to-face with individuals with special needs, the poor, the sick, or the elderly.
Catholic Social Justice is rooted in the social doctrine of the church. Juniors are required to do service among those who are materially poor, vulnerable, and on the margins of society.
Students are called to stand up for justice and form relationships with the least among us, (Matthew 25:31-45). Junior students are to be actively engaged in corporal works or spiritual works of mercy.
Below are some suggested pre approved sites where you can volunteer. You are not limited to these places. However, if you volunteer somewhere else, please get approval from your religion teacher or Mrs. Grillo.

Chicago Challenger League is a division of Little League for kids with physical or mental challenges. Volunteers act as "buddies" to the athletes (ages 4-18), helping them to run the bases or field the ball. It is a great way for kids to not only volunteer, but get outdoors, get some exercise, and make new friends too!
