Katie Bellopede
Achieving Net Zero
Mrs. Katie Bellopede is a member of the English Faculty at the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur and the Grade Level Coordinator for the Class of 2025. She holds her M. Ed from Cabrini University with a concentration in adolescent literacy. Mrs. Bellopede also studied at L'Institut d’Avignon in Avignon, France, in 1999 and is passionate about culturally immersive learning experiences. Throughout her teaching career, Mrs. Bellopede has taught English and Social Studies at both the middle and high school levels and designed and implemented a STEM curriculum for a local all-girls school in Malvern. She began her teaching career studying the health, history, and sustainability of the local watershed alongside 40 7th graders in an immersive alternative classroom setting. She brings with her a passion for collaborative problem-solving as well as a global perspective on environmental issues. As a graduate of an all-girls high school, Mrs. Bellopede is a champion of girls as problem-solvers on the worldwide stage.
Julie McNulty
Design A Wish
Mrs. McNulty is in her 8th year of witnessing student creativity at Notre Dame. Currently, she teaches all of the middle school students for visual art class and also teaches Photography and Graphic Design as an elective for high school students. Her degree is in graphic design and photography with an art education certificate. She loves what she does each day! She and her husband have four grown children and two amazing grandkids. In her free time she likes to run, make digital and traditional art, and tinker around her house. She is excited to meet and work with students and teachers from around the world during the STEM Symposium!
Terry Maksymowich
Global Health Issues
Dr. Maksymowych holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in biology and medical ethics. She has been teaching at the Academy for 38 years and currently teaches Advanced Placement Biology, Human Anatomy and Physiology with Biomedical Engineering Applications, and STEM Ethics. She has taught at Villanova University for many years as an adjunct, currently teaching Healthcare Ethics and Global Health Ethics. She runs workshops and continuing education programs nationally and internationally for teachers and physicians and publishes in the field of medical ethics and bioethics education.
Erin Pratt
The Art of Math
Mrs. Erin Pratt began in the role of the Upper School Director at the Academy of Notre Dame in July of 2022 after teaching mathematics and serving in various administrative roles at two other local independent schools over the past 22 years. Mrs. Pratt enjoys looking for mathematics in everyday situations and helping students to see the importance of math in their lives. Mrs. Pratt is an animal lover and enjoys spending time with her long haired German Shepherd dog and two cats.
Christina DeAngelo holds an undergraduate degree in Chemistry and Secondary Education as well as a master’s degree from University of Pennsylvania in Teaching, Learning, and Leadership with a concentration in Education Policy. Originally from Connecticut, she has been teaching at the Academy for two years, teaching Chemistry, Honors Chemistry and Advanced Placement Chemistry. She is eager to engage with both international and Notre Dame students at the STEM Symposium, offering a course for middle school students to introduce them to the fundamental concepts in chemistry—with the emphasis on the FUN.
Miss Monck came to Notre Dame over 30 years ago with a love of Science and young people! She has an undergraduate degree from Ursinus College and a Masters degree from Villanova University. She has taught many courses at Notre Dame including Earth Science, Physical Science and Honors Chemistry. Her philosophy for all her classes is "challenging but fun!" She has been a consultant for the College Board for questions for the A.P. Chemistry exam. In her spare time, she likes to read books and take long walks with her dog Cassie! She is excited about meeting the Middle School students who are particpating in the symposium.
Julia Tully is an alumna of the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur and currently serves as the Director of Campus Ministry. She studied Public and Community Service at Providence College and Theology and Ministry at Villanova University, and combines her two areas of study to form an approach to service rooted in Catholic Social Teaching. While Julia never saw herself as a "STEM" person as a student, she has come to see the ways that she uses STEM in her personal and professional life, and is excited to teach a justice-based course using Math and Engineering! Outside of ND, Julia loves to cook, bake, and explore Philadelphia with her husband, Tom, and cat, Rigatoni.
TA for The Art of Math
Alex will be graduating from Notre Dame this June. Alex was a Global Citizen Scholar, a leader of the environmental club, a Model UN leader, and a member of Diversity club, French club, and American Sign Language club. Alex's favorite movie is Parasite, favorite ice cream is chunky strawberry. Alex hopes to study computer science and climate studies in university.
TA for Designing Dignified Communities
Katie will be graduating from Notre Dame this June. At ND, Katie played basketball and was captain for two year. She was also a member of student council, mathletes, student ambassadors, and was president of classics club. She will be attending Boston College next year and her favorite food is pizza.
TA for Design-A-Wish
Ava will be a senior at Notre Dame next year. She plays the bass guitar and love to be at the beach!
